Have you heard of House Party yet? I just did my first one last weekend and it was so much fun. The concept is super simple. You agree to host a party at your house where you feature a certain brand or product. They send you things to enhance you parties experience and they you use their site to promote and discuss your party.
For instance, this weekend I hosted a party for Boboli pizza. The theme was “Beat the BBQ Boredom” and they suggested ways to grill pizza using their crusts. They provided me with coupons to get crusts for free as well as gift bags full of recipes, coupons and info from Boboli to give out to my guests. So I get to have a party with my friends, eat good food, and they get to leave with a little gift. It is a win-win.
House party has nothing to do with blogging. You don’t have to be a blogger to participate. If you see a party that is interesting and want to have a party, apply. Also, this isn’t like a Tupperware party or any other direct sales thing. You aren’t trying to sell anyone anything. You are just having a party with a theme and highlighting some products. So it doesn’t have to feel weird, or high pressure or anything.
Right now, they have some great parties to apply for. There is one for Kraft foods, one for the new Star Wars movie, and even one for MSU Spartans alumni (of which my hubby is one!!). I am excited to try a few more of these now that I have the hang of it a bit. My only complaint about the process is that you are supposed to use their site for all your planning and I don’t feel like its RSVP function is very user friendly. I think in the future I might use Evite and I have a feeling I will get a better response and turn out. I had several invited guests tell me they couldn’t figure out how to RSVP.
But all in all, it was a good experience. I am hoping they pick me for another one soon!
How about you? Have you hosted or been to a House Party? What did you think?
This post is linked to Works For Me Wednesday at We Are That Family. While House Party did contact me to let me know about their site, I participated in a party of my own accord and was not compensated in any way. I just really wanted to try it because it sounded fun. As usual all opinions are mine.
