What's Goin' On…

calendar Each week I get sent a lot of information on fun things going on around the web and I usually can’t find a place to tell you about them so they never get passed on. So I decided every Sunday I will do a post telling you what is going on around the web. I may throw in some good posts I read, sites I have found, etc. Who knows what it will be. Stay tuned to see.

  • Wisk has always helped get clothing clean but now Wisk is here to help you clean up your “dirty laundry” online with the Wisk-It™ Facebook app. Everyone’s got a photo that needs to be washed away. Just in time for all the post Halloween photos floating around, the new WISK-IT Facebook app helps you clean up your image by searching tagged, untagged and detagged photos in your friends’ album. Just search, click, and WISK-IT! There’s no time like the present to stop airing your “dirty laundry”! I had a lot of fun seeing what pics were out there and walking down memory lane. Aside from some pics of an unfortunate hairstyle I sported for a while, nothing scandalous appears to be out there.
  • Power Up Video Challenge” contest!  Kids ages 3-13 along with their parents are being challenged to view a Power Rangers “cliffhanger video” online featuring Power Rangers toys and then submit their own unique ending in a mini-movie or story-board at Bandai.com.  Selected by both peers and a judging panel, the winning video and story-board entries will receive $10,000 and $1,000 in cash prizes respectively.  Submissions are being accepted from now till December 15, so get out your child’s Power Rangers toys and get filming! Good luck! Having only girls this age, we aren’t too into the Power Rangers. More Disney Princesses. But man, the college money is tempting….
  • It’s National Animal Shelter Week. Visit www.BringPetsHome.org to learn more about National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week and ways you can help support the work of shelters by using the “Shop to Help” page. Throughout the year, BringPetsHome’s “Shop to Help” page raises money to help shelters care for homeless pets.  It serves as an online portal where visitors can access more than 150 major online retailers, like Amazon, Sephora, Wal-Mart, iTunes, and many more. To raise money, online shoppers register at www.bringpetshome.org to select a shelter to support, then click-through to the merchant of choice.  Each retailer specifies a percent commission on the Web site and donates that percentage of the purchase to BringPetsHome.  There is no additional cost to the consumer. My family always had shelter dogs growing up so I love this cause. Plus I love shopping. So this is a win-win.
  • The EarthCare Challenge, presented by Hickory Springs, is a nationwide competition that will follow contestants as they aspire to live more sustainable lifestyles entirely on social networking communities Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. One lucky grand prize winner will receive an earth-friendly home furnishings makeover for their home, valued at $5,000! The EarthCare Challenge is now accepting entries. Simply submit a few sentences and photo examples about why you want to be or need to be more green to earthcareinside@gmail.com. Woohoo, home makeover, green edition!!

There ya go. Have a great end to the weekend.
