Udi’s Muffins and Bagels- Things I Love Thursday

TILT  I am a lover of carbs. Serious carb lover. So I as I see more of my friends decide they have gluten sensitivities need to swear of most carbs I mourn a little bit for them. I mean a life free of carbs is not worth living.

Well Udi’s might just agree with me. Which is why they have a great selection of gluten- free foods that totally would make any carb lover happy. With OR without the gluten.

I received a nice little package of muffins and bagels to review. Actually I would be lucky to get a bit in. The box came and the kids, home from their first day of Christmas vacation, descended on the box like hyenas. Seriously, you would think they have never seen muffins and bagels before!!

I gotta say, since our house is not gluten- free I don’t really have a big base for comparison, but I thought they were all quite delicious. I must say I had kind of low expectations for gluten-free food, but if I wouldn’t have known it was gluten-free, I never would have guessed.

The plain bagel tastes like a… plain bagel. Which isn’t a bad thing with some cream cheese. But the cinnamon bagel smelled so good in the package that I literally kept wondering if I was baking something and had forgotten. It was equally yummy tasting.

Then there are the muffins. The Lemon Streusel Muffins have this yummy tart topping on them. They remind me of a lemon poppy seed muffin. So yummy. But the Double Chocolate Muffins taste like chocolate cake. I had a nice Bill Cosby moment having chocolate cake for breakfast. So so so so good. The package comes with 4 muffins in it. And 2 hours after the package arrived…..there were none. So, yeah. We liked them.

Overall I was very impressed with what I tried. And since they didn’t “taste” gluten-free (not that I know what that tastes like), I think I would be inclined to buy them for our house. My kids certainly like them AND I could actually decipher the ingredient list which is a rarity these days.

They can be a little tricky to find, but I recommend you check them out, especially if you or someone in your family is gluten-free. You can also find Udi’s Gluten Free on Twitter and on Facebook.

I wrote this post in participation with Udi’s holiday gluten free entertaining campaign. As always all opinions are mine.

  3. Since I do eat gluten free, Udi’s is a STAPLE in our pantry! Those chocolate muffins . . . oh my word. I feel so indulgent eating them for breakfast. Sometimes I bring one with me to eat as dessert if I’m going to a friend’s house for dinner.

  4. Where did you find these in Grand Rapids? I’d love to get these for some friends who are GF… finding recipes that don’t have a million ingredients that I don’t have on hand is difficult but a mix could be just perfect!

    • They were sent to me but it looks like quite a few local places carry them http://udisglutenfree.com/stores?zipcode=49546&radius=25&commit=Search&store_type=1001

  5. My family isn’t gluten free {thankfully, cause I love me some carbs}. But we have a ton of friends that are. And to have something that they can enjoy along with the rest of us is pretty awesome.

  6. I just linked up a recipe to a hearty and healthy Quinoa, Kale, and White Bean Soup – but it’s just saying my name…

  7. Tricky is right, especially if you live in a small town. :( Sadly, my oldest has a verified gluten allergy and I’m fairly sure the youngest does too. That doesn’t stop the parents from indulging, but it makes life more difficult and finding things that can be treats for the boys is complicated. I’m just thankful we live today and not 60 years ago when their great grandmother was a diagnosed Celiac! (yes, it’s hereditary)
