When I became a parent I had two goals. One, get my kids to love Broadway musicals (check). The other was in instill a love of reading (check and CHECK). Sometimes there love is so deep they disappear into their room for large chunks of the day and seem to be unable to hear the frequency at which I speak. But I’ll take it!
I am always looking for new book series to introduce to the girls since that is how they seem to like to read books these days (although really Lily would just read Harry Potter over and over and over and over allowed). So I was really excited to get the chance to review Travels with Gannon and Wyatt an adventure series written by Patti Wheeler and Keith Hemstreet.
Lily gravitated towards Travels with Gannon and Wyatt: Egypt. She has been really into Egypt since reading the The Kane Chronicles so it didn’t surprise me that she would find this one fascinating as well. The Travels with Gannon and Wyatt series follow the adventure of two boys around the world to places like Botswana and the Great Bear Rainforest.
The books are written as their journal entries and alternate back and forth between the two men. You really get to see their personalities come through in their writing style. And cool fact, they are based on the authors real twin boys! I also love that you learn so much about the areas where they travel.
Lily is a really advanced reader so she found the books a little slow. She did say they were good books, but not really her style. Which is likely true. They are written for kids 8-12 and I really think most kids would enjoy them. I plan on starting the books with Hannah after we get through the series we are reading right now.
These would make a great Christmas present for the reader in your family and I happen to have a WHOLE SET to give away. It’s a bit of a quick one, so that the books will get there before the holiday. Good luck!
