Traveling Without Breaking The Bank

road trip

This post is brought to you by Capital One and The Motherhood and I’ve been compensated for my time. All opinions are my own.

If I’ve said it once on this blog, I’ve said it 100 times. We love a good road trip. We love piling the kids in the car and taking off to destinations near and far. In fact we have so many little and big trips planned this summer I have named it “THE SUMMER OF AWESOME.”

I am currently in Chicago with the family and have noticed a little something. Road trips are getting more expensive. The price of gas is 1/2 a mortgage per tank. I now have three kids eating full meals which makes even a fast food stop a major chunk of change. And somehow my kids just convinced me they all needed a couple of things on Michigan Ave. Things I would never say yes to on a normal day somehow always illicit a “why not!!!” on vacation.

So I am excited to be participating in the #MomsTravel Best Twitter party with Capital One hosted by The Motherhood on Wednesday, June 12 at 12 p.m. ET (11 a.m. CT/9 a.m. PT)!   We will be discussing ways to save money while traveling. I could totally use some creative tips before the summer ends and our budget is blown.

If you want to learn how to make your summer vacation affordable and enjoyable, then this party is for you! Plus there will be five trivia question winners who will win a $50 VISA gift card. A little play money to put towards your summer vacation perhaps?

When: Wednesday, June 12, at 12-1 p.m. ET

Where: On Twitter – follow the #MomsTravelBest hashtag to track the conversation. You can see more details and RSVP via this Twtvite: http://bit.ly/183of6T

Hope to see you there!!

  1. Hey! Because no one I know loves Chicago more than you, I need help. Mark and I are going for the 4th of July for three days, no kids, and I want to know your favorites. Can I convince you to do a Chicago-love post? (Or at least an email?) I kn ow the normal stuff from the guidebooks and the internet, but I want to know things that only someone who loves Chicago can tell me:

    – best place for a picture with the skyline
    – best beach that is fun and pretty and not full of annoying people
    – favorite place for a fancy dress-me-up dinner date (TEN TEAR ANNIVERSARY)
    – best place to see fireworks (Grant Park with the outdoor concert is the obvious choice but will I have to get there half a day ahead to get a spot?)…

I have never been to Chicago, besides the occasional night in a hotel after a missed flight connection, so TELL ME ALL YOU KNOW, JILL kthx.
