Top Ten Ways I Cut Corners- Top Ten Tuesday

top-ten-tuesday   Some might call it lazy, but I call it ingenious. Sometimes I just take the easy way. Here are the top ten ways I do so.

  1. Cleaning Wipes: I don’t enjoy cleaning. At all. Wipes help me clean up fast and make things look presentable. I am pretty sure they aren’t doing the deep cleaning I probably should be doing, but they at least get the caked up toothpaste off my counter at the end of the day. Or most of it at least.
  2. School Drop Off: Confession. I drop Lily off in my pjs. Every day I pray she won’t forget something forcing me to actually walk inside her school in all my pajama glory. But in the winter I have a big bulky coat on and my hair is hidden under the cloak of darkness. Now it is getting lighter out in the morning so I am trying to pass my pajamas off as “gym clothes". If you see me in drop off line, play along.
  3. TV Caller ID: We recently switched to AT&T U-Verse and my absolute favorite thing about it is the caller ID feature. If someone calls while we are watching TV, their number appears on the screen. Telemarketers are a lot less frustrating when you haven’t gotten up from your warm and cozy spot on the couch to answer the phone. By the way, if you call at night and we don’t answer, it isn’t because we don’t want to talk to you. We are probably out on the town. Ahem.
  4. Perennials: I have a black thumb. Mostly because I can’t seem to remember rule number one of keeping green things alive- water. But also because of a whole lot of other things that are time and energy consuming. Thankfully the house we moved into is landscaped with lots of flowers that keep coming back no matter how hard I try to kill them.
  5. Using My Children: My kids think dusting and vacuuming is some sort of award to be won. Seriously, they don’t know that it is work. So look kiddos!!! Mommy will let you dust!!!!!!! Score.
  6. Pizza crust: I make so much stuff from scratch. This week I even tackled yogurt. but when we have a crazy busy night I fall back to pizza. And rather than order something nasty from take-out, we make our own. But even though pizza crust isn’t hard to make, I usually use store bought. One less thing to do and dinner is on the table in 10 minutes.
  7. Throw in upstairs or downstairs: Or in a closet for that matter. If you are coming over to my house. it will hopefully look clean. Or at the minimum presentable. What you don’t see it that I only clean up the main floor. Don’t even THINK I will let you see any other floors of my house.
  8. Auto Withdrawal: I can’t remember the last time I paid a bill with a check. Actually that isn’t true because the city is behind the times and you can’t pay the water bill online. But I don’t have time to worry about bills. That would also require me to know what day of the month it is which is unlikely to happen.
  9. Beauty Shop: If I am having one of those exhausting days where I desperately need a nap but it doesn’t seem to be in the cards, I pull out the beauty shop card. My girls love to play beauty shop with me. I basically sit there and let them brush my hair for hours. That would cost a pile of money at a spa, but I am getting it for free. Or for the fantastic reward of getting to dust my living room.
  10. Bounce Bars: Yep, my Blissdom sponsor. Seriously, are you not using these yet? Stick them in the dryer, throw your laundry in and walk away. Repeat for 2-4 months. A lazy girl’s dream.
Bounce provided me with a Blissdom conference ticket and hotel room, but they did not compensate me in any other way to write this post.  All opinions are my own. This post is linked up to Top Ten Tuesday at Oh Amanda

  1. Ah, a fellow black thumber! I love perennials as well, mostly because I don’t like digging in the dirt every year. (It’s not lazy, it’s efficient!) One thing that helped was our above ground watering system from Lowes. We hooked it up with a Y connector to the spigot right outside the front door. I step out, turn it on and forget to turn it off until hours later…..

Oh my, I agree with so many of your ingenious time savers! Wipes are the best and I love staying in my
Pjs as long as I can. And the bounce bar … Love it! Oh and if it wasn’t for auto withdrawal I fear our bills would never get paid ;).

  6. I can totally relate to #4. I was really surprised we kept our dogs alive since our luck with plants had been so bad. Luckily, I have a friend who LOVES landscaping but lives in a condo, so we buy the supplies and he does all the work. And he thinks it’s fun.

  7. We totally used to do beauty shop with my mom when we were little. Combing hair, ribbons and barrettes, lotion on the feet. The works! Looking back, I wonder how she sold us on this. Genius. I love cutting corners, so I truly appreciate this list.
