My favorite thing about back to school when I was growing up was the thought of getting new clothes. In fact now I sometimes still have to get a few new things when school is approaching for nostalgia sake.
Oddly enough being the MOM during back to school shopping is a LOT less fun than being the kid. And if I believed in karma I am sure I am getting mine. Cause my daughter and I do not see eye to eye on what is appropriate.
Thanks to Mom Central I was provided with a $50 giftcard to go back to school shopping at TJ Maxx or Marshalls. While I have always been a big fan of both stores for myself and my home I have never shopped there for my kids.
I was hoping to get shoes because my kids are running around it ratty flip flops still but sadly my TJ Maxx didn’t have kid’s shoes. I know Marshalls has a GREAT family shoe department but it is on the other side of town. Although TJ Maxx did have several KILLER pairs of kitten heels with a leopard print. Focus. FOCUS.
Lily really needed a fall coat so I grabbed an adorable peacoat for $20. Twenty bucks was a steal!! I was so excited. I was honestly a little disappointed in some of the selection for girls her age. Then again I am having trouble finding things I like for her age in general because they all seem to be going for some sort of Britney Spears look. The thing is the buyers at Marshalls and TJ Maxx make sure they are very in touch with all the latest trends and fashions. I just wish the fashions kept my little girl a little girl a little bit longer.
But what I did find were some great basics like socks, plain t-shirts, and kitten heels. No I resisted the kitten heels. Honestly!
The last thing I want to spend lots of money on is basics. But through they years I have also learned that when you buy too cheap of basics they don’t last the school year. The great thing about TJ Maxx and Marshalls is that they have name brand, high quality brands for 20-60% off. I could truly tell the quality of the coat and shirts I was buying would last a lot longer that the things I sometimes buy in discount stores.
The other great things about TJ Maxx and Marshalls is that it is one stop shopping. You can shop for the whole family, accessories, home and there is even Godiva chocolate in the check out line. Cause sometimes after shopping with picky 8 yo going on 16 yo daughters a mama needs chocolate.
Through Sept. 23rd Mom Central is giving away 3 $100 TJ Maxx/Marshalls giftcards. It is super easy to enter so make sure to check it out.
I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of T.J.Maxx and Marshalls and received a gift card to facilitate my review and thank me for taking the time to participate.
