This might fall under TMI…

toilet    I have noticed an interesting phenomenon developing in Hannah. Actually this has been going on for a long time, but I just had an epiphany about it this weekend. You know how as a parent, your kids tend to imitate what you do? Sometimes this is super cute and endearing. Sometimes it is just a big ugly mirror to all that is flawed about yourself. Precious moments are those.

Then sometimes, your kids just pick up something out of the blue and you have no idea where it comes from. This has got to be one of these instances. Cause I know of no other reason this could be occurring. You see Hannah is very private when she is…going about her business. She isn’t potty trained so she is still going in her diaper (she really probably should be potty trained, but mommy is lazy, lazy, lazy). But if it is of the #2 variety, you can be sure she will hide and scream if anyone tries to find her or come near here.

How do I know she hasn’t learned this from me? Cause I haven’t been alone in any way, shape or form in the bathroom since having children.

  1. So true! How would they assume that this was a private ordeal?? It’s been an open door policy at my house since day 1.

  2. Sometimes I dream about going to the bathroom by myself. In my dreams, there are always angels singing in the background!

  3. HA!

Actually, I have heard that this is really common in kids who are about to be potty trained. They start getting weird and hide. Diaper freedom may be near!

  4. we are spending part of hubby’s Christmas break from work potty training…I’m done with changing an almost 3 year old’s diaper AND my newborns diaper……bleg….

  5. They never warn us before we become moms about the necessity of giving up all bathroom privacy. It would probably lead to the end of civilization if we knew that.

  6. I know, right?? I just wanna go to the pot by myself! No. 1 or No. 2. Either would be GREAT. :)

  10. My little girl is the same way. Or, she was before she started potty training. She’s 3 now and finally potty trained – although i wasn’t pushing her at all, I was in no hurry to start having to pull down pants and wipe little bottoms rather than just change a diaper once a day (I know, I’m lazy too!)
But, before this, she would go do her business in the closet, or go in the bathroom and close the door… silly kid!

  12. Yup, this is totally normal behavior :) My doc (and mother) say it’s a sign of getting ready to be potty trained — because they understand that it’s a private thing.

Now’s the time to buy the “Everybody poops” book!
