Things I Love Thursday- Rozini Smart Taste Pasta

TILT We make valiant attempts to eat healthy around here. I say this after a meal at McDonalds followed by a spoonful of marshmallow fluff for dessert. Am I a better mom if I got apple dippers instead of fries with the Happy Meal. Look Ma I ate fruit with my processed meat. One of my kids is extremely picky and the other does pretty good most of the time, but goes through picky phases. Oh and the new one is still on the boob juice so I guess he got Micky Ds with the rest of us. Needless to say healthy is hard when you are up against picky.

But one food that everyone will eat without complaint is pasta. Of course the picky one won’t have anything but cheese on it (red sauce is evil), but she asks for pasta nearly every meal. One thing we have managed to do is get rid of most of the white stuff. My kids eat only wheat bread (they actually think white is too mushy), if they would try rice it would be brown (yeah they won’t try it, but that is what we serve) and we serve wheat pasta. Well we alternate between wheat and Ronzini Smart Taste. Cause even I have to admit wheat pasta tastes a bit like cardboard (sorry wheat pasta).

Ronzini Smart Taste tastes like white pasta, looks like white pasta, but contains added calcium and fiber, is lower calories and fat, and contains no sodium, preservatives or cholesterol giving it a nutritional value much closer to wheat pasta. With no cardboard taste.

Ronzoni knows our frustration as Moms and the lengths we will go to feed our kids healthier foods.  A new survey they conducted shows that that more than half of Moms of kids aged 3-12 find it challenging to feed healthy foods to their kids (thank God I am not the only one).  So in addition to their line of pasta, they created a funny, spoof video featuring the Smart Taste Supermom:

Um….Ok….Anywho, if you have a picky eater or don’t like the taste of cardboard you should definitely check this pasta out. What are you loving this week. Let us know at the Mr. Linky below. A few reminders: link to your actual post not just your blog, link back to this blog and reference TILT in your post please and spread the comment love around to your fellow TILT participants. Or if you are a newbie, check out some more guidelines here.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Ronzoni Pasta and received a sample of Ronzoni Smart Taste Pasta to facilitate my review and a $20 thank-you gift certificate.

  1. Never tried this pasta. My daughter loves spaghetti & alfredo so we will have to try it.

  2. Oooh I’ll have to link up tomorrow. Like this idea!

  3. Love your honesty! I never thought that I would allow my kids to eat McD’s but now we can’t drive by without my oldest who is 2 ask to go to “Mcdongals”. Actually he never ate out until my youngest was born and it is just so much easier sometimes and with my youngest being so picky lately, I would rather him get the protein of the burger than turn into one big Graham Cracker. Those are the only 2 things he is eating right now!!
    Thanks for the laugh!

  4. I laughed to myself because I too call it “red sauce” and my husband picks on me! Also when I was little my mom used to have to melt velveeta cheese for me when they had spaghetti! lol If it makes you feel any better I am a much better eater now! :)

  5. It is hard when they decide they will only eat certain things! At least chicken nuggets are protein! :)

We have been making a big effort to move to whole grains – away from white. Brown rice is actually the most difficult change, so I’m trying to be creative – BUT I love the whole wheat pastas and find that I just need to cook them 1 minute longer than package directions for my girls to eat them without making faces. The textural difference really threw them for a loop – but we are a pasta eating family, so the change has been good. I don’t think we’ve tried the Smart Taste pasta, so I will check it out! Thanks for the review!

  7. This is what we eat, too! I love Ronzoni Smart Taste – and I actually have it on my list of blog ideas for a Things I Love Thursday post in the future! :)

  8. Oh my gosh. I just watched the video. That is TOO funny.

Umm…somehow I just accidentally posted to your Mr. Linky. (I was trying to tab over to hit submit and I guess it didn’t work??) I didn’t want to. So, if you want to take it down…? Sorry!!

  9. I’m right there with ya, Girl! My middle child (the princess in training) is the pickiest of all our eaters! She also thinks the red sauce is “evil.” Lol We switched to the whole grain pastas a couple years ago when she started having “bathroom issues” and no one even knows the difference! The whole grain Kraft Mac & Cheese is good too!

  10. My daughter loved the video! : ) We’ll have to give this pasta a try. I have experimented with whole wheat, and pretty much everyone dislikes, ok hates, it. I can get away with it pretty well in lasagna and elaborate casseroles though.

Add us to the “never going to eat McDonalds”.. ha! That lasted long. Sigh. We have not tried this pasta, but we will. We have had the whole grain kraft mac & cheese that a previous poster mentioned, and that seemed to go well. It really is tough, not just trying to get them to eat, but actually enjoying it yourself! Thanks for the insights, we’ll have to give this a try :)

  12. Love this pasta!!! Tried whole wheat for a while but the kids always complained…tried this and they never said a word…which tells me they don’t think it’s healthy for them in the least. :-)

  13. I just bought some of this pasta (had a coupon) and I’m really looking forward to trying it out!
