Things I Love Thursday- Frosted Flakes Gold

Well, a plague has settled quite nicely over our house. It started with Hannah oozing nasty puss out of her ear on Monday which resulted in an ear infection diagnosis. Then last night, I began to feel a little funky and get the chills which today exploded into full-blown influenza. The hubby has begun to complain of an upset stomach. No one is getting any sleep. We are just a regular party around here.

It is a bit sad that when I get the flu I get a teensy bit excited that it might result in weight loss. Today, I wasn’t throwing up, but I just felt like I could at any moment so food was not high on my list of priorities. Sleep…way up there. Thank God my parents came and took over parenting duties so I could take several naps today. And they made a McDonalds run so the girls wouldn’t starve. When my stomach began begging me for food, I wasn’t sure what sounded good. But you know what always sounds good? Cereal.

This week I was given Kellogg’s new Frosted Flakes Gold to try. My family has been fighting over the box ever since. They tasted a bit like Golden Grahams, except a flake. Instead of Tony’s usual sugar coated goodness, this time he went the healthier route offering 10g of whole grains per serving. Have you noticed that a lot of cereals are getting on this whole grain train? I like that cause I don’t like feeding my kids a bowl full of sugar for breakfast. That being said, the second ingredient is still sugar. And Tony, Tony, Tony, what is it with the high fructose corn syrup? (Disclaimer: despite having the flu, I am not delusional enough to think that a cartoon tiger is involved in the decision making process of this cereal)

Still, I appreciate that there are 3 grams of fiber per serving and that Kellogg’s seems to be committed to providing healthier alternatives for my kid’s breakfast. Even the Frosted Flakes website has a page that pops up why kids are playing their games that tells them to take a break from the computer and do something active.

And I think if Kellogg’s is looking for a new advertising slogan to market the cereal it should be “Kellogg’s Frosted Flake Gold: what you reach for when you are bed ridden with the flu, but still hungry and don’t want to barf.” Man, I think I missed a career calling.

Comments

  1. I am a cereal-o-holic…I ate Cheerios for my entire first trimester. I’m surprised Bubbalu didn’t come out shaped like one.

    :)

  2. Thankfully you have your parents there, we basically put Clare in front of the TV for 2 days while we slept on the couch either sweating like a pig or freezing like a penguin when we had that bug. I’m going to have to give these a try next time I’m in the cereal aisle!

  3. Hope you guys feel better. That doesn’t sound great.

  4. I love cereal…so Istick to the healthy ones instead of the ones I really want lik Cocoa puffs! I know what you mean about maybe losing wieght though…one more stomach flu and I’ll be at my goal weight! J/k! (from The Devil Wears Prada!) Love that movie!

  5. What a bummer you all are sick. Especially since it’s like 70 out today. Finally…..spring in Michigan!

But, cereal, yup I love it too. Anytime really. My husband laughs at me cause I eat it for a night snack. Whatever. It’s yummy!

Hope you’re all better soon! (and I’m hoping just as much that my family doesn’t get it. Everyone I know has it right now)

  6. Girl, Madison Avenue is calling! Put those barf bags away!
