Since having babies I am only carrying about 5-10 pounds of extra weight around. But despite a relatively small amount on the scale, every single part of my seems to have shifted in a way that makes me look a bit lumpy and bumpy. Oddly enough the parts of me that still should be lumpy and bumpy seem to have deflated. Oh kids. You better stay worth it
There is one item in wardrobe that keeps me feeling confident despite my lumps and bumps. And that is my drawer full of shapewear. It doesn’t matter the season, I typically have some form or another on. In the summer I am a little more likely to “let it all hang out”, but I find that I just feel a lot better with a little something on.
So here are a few of my favorite pieces:
1. Yummie Tummie:
This baby is a workhorse in my wardrobe. I have a Yummie Tummie in 3 colors and few different styles and they are almost always under my clothes when I am wearing pants or shorts. I prefer their long style so I can tuck them in. I find if I don’t the bunch up a bit and that is the WORST. The key to shapewear is that it stays put. If it is bunching, you will be uncomfortable and likely not smoothed out. I cannot say enough about how much I love these. The tops part and bottom part aren’t shaping so they are a thinner, lighter weight material. The middle part holds you in without being remotely uncomfortable. There are many cheaper imitations, but I think you get what you pay for with these.
Need some shaping in your thighs, waist and backside? This is your girl. I wear these with slim fitting skirts and dresses. Today I wore one with a maxi skirt to smooth out the lines from the lumps and bumps and waistline of the skirt. This way I can wear a fitted shirt and not feel like I am one of those long strings of sausages.
I have a few maxi dresses that I just feel shapelier in when I have a little something smoothing me out underneath. This slip has light coverage so I don’t feel like a stuffed sausage. I just feel, say it with me, less lumpy and bumpy.
I think you can start with these three basic pieces and build from here. I tend to buy things in nude and black because between the two of them, they can go under most things. Like I said above, you get what you pay for in shapewear. I know it is expensive, but I think it is such a worthwhile investment. My Yummie Tummie tanks I have had for over 5 years and they are still in great shape. And like I said, I wear them practically every day.
And feeling confident and shapely in your clothes? Priceless.
