The Challenge Week 1- Fix Your Boudoir

Ladies, I am so excited I can hardly stand it! There are over 80 of you signed up to participate in The Challenge. Oh my goodness, our hubbies are going to start taking over the world!! And as you can see, I have a code for the button over in my sidebar so I would love it you continue spreading the word. Let’s top 100. Are ya ready? Let’s kick off week 1 shall we?

Our bedrooms should be a haven. I find, it’s pretty hard to get in the mood with piles of dirty laundry waiting to be folded staring you down. So, your first assignment is to turn your bedroom into a romantic retreat.

  1. Lose the TV: I once watched an Oprah (though not in my bedroom) where a woman proudly admitted that she watched Oprah while having sex with her husband. That’s about the worst thing you can do with a TV in the bedroom, but frankly I can’t think of many better reasons for it. I love TV as much as the next gal, probably more than the next girl, but it is a passion killer in the bedroom. One study showed that couples who have TVs in the bedroom have sex half as often as those who don’t. So lose the TV and focus on each other while in bed. No excuses on this one ladies, I have heard them all and I ain’t buyin’ it.
  2. Tone down pictures of the kids: I can’t think of anything that kills the mood faster than glancing over at pictures of my kids. Don’t get me wrong, I think my kids are the cutest things since sliced bread, but I keep their pictures up in other parts of the house. If you really want pics of the kids in your room, just avoid putting them right next to the bed.
  3. Get rid of the clutter: Try and keep your room picked up. If I see messes waiting to be cleaned up, I have a hard time focusing on the task at hand. If you really want to be creative, tell the hubby you can’t focus on the task at hand with the room so messy. You will be amazed at how quickly the room stays clean. Of course, I would NEVER encourage manipulation…
  4. Get romantic lighting: No one wants to see themselves naked under harsh fluorescent lighting (let’s face it most of us don’t want to see ourselves naked at all). Install dimmer switches or light bulbs that can be set on different light settings. Better yet, get some yummy smelling candles and create an even more romantic mood.
  5. Try some mood music: Get a CD player and put on some music that puts you in the mood. I won’t even give suggestions cause one persons Enya is another persons Van Morrison. Use whatever works for you.

There you go. I’m going easy on you the first week. You’re not even required to have sex. Although you will get extra credit if you do :) So what do you think? Are you in?

Comments

  1. Great points. I’d add having the baby monitor on. You can’t get it on with one ear trying to hear if the baby is squawking in her crib!
    And Van Morrison? Yes, please.

  2. Great ideas… I didn’t think about the pictures of the kid. I LOVE the idea of telling my hubs I can”t “focus” with the mess. This is going to be fun :)

I have had “get the bedroom de-cluttered” on my list for months! I think I may get the help I was promised by my hubby this time! This is going to be great fun.

  4. I will get rid of the kids pictures tomorrow & move them to another room. I never thought of that. I could do with out the TV, but hubby would never go for that. So…what to do?

Okay, I just commented on this post but your older one of it a few seconds ago. I don’t even know how I found that one!! LOL.

Anyway, again, we are big on the No TV rule. As for the music, I love that suggestion and am probably going to work that in tonight. ; )

This challenge is lots of fun!

  9. we already keep the 1st and 2nd out of the bedroom! just need to work on the last 3! 3 will be the hardest, but this may have just have given me all the motivation i need! thanks :)

  10. Wow, what a coincidence (or not, depending on how you view such things). My January project is to restore our bedroom to it’s previous boudoir state. A couple years ago, we painted the bedroom, got new furniture and made a room for us, a haven that was uncluttered and nice to be in. Well…over the past several months the state of affairs in the boudoir have significantly declined, so I decided to start the year off right and get it back in shape!

I know I’m able to um, concentrate better, when I’m not distracted by clutter on the bedside table and clothes on the floor! ;)

  11. If you can’t get the TV out of the room, how about establishing a no TV time? Agree that after a certain time the TV will be turned off and not come back on until the sun comes up. Our problem right now is the baby, who still refuses to spend the entire night in her own bed, although we are working on it and most nights she starts in her own bed giving us a few hours of alone time. Gotta start somewhere!

  13. Christin says:

Great ideas! A couple I never thought of…like pics of the kids. I should replace them with pics of me and hubby together. :) Also, I agree about the baby monitor. Ohhh that is a killer and I have one in my room, even though the baby is two steps across the hall. If she really needs me, she’ll let me know!
Great challenge! I look forward to sprucing it up this week!

    Candles. Check.
    Music. Check.

Crap. Gotta declutter our room. No pics of kids. Or Grandma. Or any other figures that might make for a scary mid-session glance over. So we’re good there.

    Really good thoughts here.

  15. Heather H says:

Okay, okay. So this means I probably need to move the 2-month old out of the bedroom, too? I’m having a hard time letting go – even though she’d only be moving a few feet down the hall…Guess I need to suck it up, though, huh? :) K – so my challenge is to de-clutter my bedroom by transferring the babe to her own room. Luckily, I have a week to work up to it…

  16. this might be TMI… but what’s a post on sex without TMI? I went to world market and got some incense. it smells nice and gives a sense of the faraway (we have really good vacation sex, trying to play that up at home you know)… unlike candles which we burn in our kitchen to get rid of the grease smell (not so much sexy). I plan to light out nice-smelling incense this week.

ugh, I guess that means I need to clean our room first, and put away the laundry.

  17. Kathryn says:

Oh, man … you’ve been spying on me! We emptied a room that has termite damage so we could fix it. Well, at least that was the plan. 6 months later the extra furniture is still cluttering up our bedroom. Your post is a terrific reminder to make the master bedroom a place for comfort and coming together as a couple.

  18. Okay…I’m in a dilemma. My husband and I are in the process of building a house in another state. (Yea!) BUT…our bedroom is full of packing boxes and it is chaos! We have a small apt. in Ohio, the state we are moving to for when we have to be up there until the house is done. It is like a bachelor’s pad to say the least. This is just the way it is until we actually move. Maybe I should just have sex with blinders on???? ha!

  20. Woot! 2 weekends ago Hubby and I DEEP cleaned our bedroom and now we have a bet going. Whoever leaves clothes (dirty or clean) on the floor first, has to be the others “slave” (backrub, initiating, etc). Haha! I want a backrub so bad, I keep hoping he’ll leave something on the floor, but he doesn’t!

  21. And we don’t have a TV in our room! yay!

Uh, you totally got me on this one. I spent the day cleaning and de-cluttering. I can’t wait to see what you’ve got in store for us next week and the ones that follow.

    TV? Gone.
    Clutter? Gone.
    Candles? Lit.
    Playlist? Made.

    Extra Credit? Absolutely! :)

Thanks for doing this challenge, I can already tell that it’s going to be good!

  34. Leslie says:

For those of you who have a baby in the bedroom…we learned how to be pretty creative during those years – a nest of blankets on the living room floor, the couch, you get the picture. A little adventure never hurt anyone!

  37. Yes!- I just did a major clean out of the bedroom this weekend and it’s so much more relaxing now. All the junk by the bed was a stressor. Now I need to deal with the really funky curtains, maybe put a candle in the bedroom too. Dh would like that/

    Alissas last blog post..Preschooler Cookin’

  38. Okay, I don’t have any pics of the kids in our bedroom or any toys. However, I do have to get our seventeen month old daughter out of the room…sigh…easier said than done.

**For those of you ladies who deal with the-baby-in-the-room dilemma, try the living room :) or a spare bedroom, or the minivan–if you have a garage of course, privacy is paramount– (haven’t done that one YET…hmmm…might be a fun way to spice it up though!) The point is to work with what you have and WORK IT! :)**

Clutter is minimal and usually consists of laundry…which drives my husband insane…so I try to keep it picked up.

For mood lighting, there is no cheaper way to go than Dollar Store tea lights!

There is no CD player in our bedroom, so we are at the mercy of what is on the radio….need to put “stereo for bedroom” at the top of our “to-be-bought” list!

However, I am working on creating a more romantic decorating atmosphere conducive to lovemaking in our bedroom. It is so hard when you have such a limited budget and extravagant dreams! Guess I am going to have to get creative :)

The TV got kicked out of our home almost a year ago. We decided that it was taking over our family time and our couple time. Out it went and we don’t miss it a bit!

I got my extra credit done last night *grin*

Thanks for such a great challenge!

  40. Great tips! Unfortunately, when we clean the house, our room always gets the “throw backs”. Piles of papers, etc gets thrown back to our room. It drives me nuts. Moving “de-clutter bedroom” to the top of my to-do list.

  41. Count me in! Got the list for this week and put the button up at my bloggy home!

  42. Well, I can’t get rid of the TV, my husband wouldn’t go for that. I could do without it. However, we live in a very rural area and are having DTV difficulties so that may be solved for me in another month!!

  43. I’m in! I’m super excited about this challenge too! So far I’m ok…have some things to work on in the bedroom but a few months ago I redecorated, took out all photos of anyone but hubby and I, put out some new photos of us, and no tv. BUT my room is a mess! I need some organizational tips/help for this! I simply am not good at always putting away clean clothes, keeping things picked up, etc….HELP! So…I’ll work on cleaning/decluttering and look into good lighting (I think that is a FABULOUS idea!)
    :0)
    ~robin

  44. Yeah, another incentive to stop throwing all the ‘junk’ in the bedroom!! Ready to clean it up and make it a haven to escape and enjoy! I like the ‘slave’ idea mentioned above…someone in our bedroom has a problem with clothes on the ….gasp…FLOOR! Hmmm…maybe it’s more than one person!?

  45. How many weeks do I get to accomplish all this? Just getting rid of the clutter may take weeks!

  46. count me in. I need to de-clutter and do something about the TV. DH bought a new TV for our room last year, don’t think I can get rid of it. I like the idea of turning it off at a certain time each night.

  50. 1. Check – no tv
    2. No pics of kids but I need to remove pic of my dad
    3. Clutter – almost there – I need to move the box of kids too small clothes
    4. Lighting – I will get some tea lights next time I get into town. In the meantime I will use the candles we have now.
    5. No cd player but the laptop is a good way to get the music going.

Thanks for the challenge. I blogged about it on two of my blogs – http://www.jennifervalerie.blogspot.com and http://www.helpmeetministries.blogspot.com and put buttons up as well.

  51. I don’t have pictures of my kids in there.
We already have dimmers for the lights, as well as music that can be played in there.

    Clutter–well, I’m working on that.

Tv. Keeping it. I’m sorry. I know what they say about a tv in the bedroom, but I LIKE having it there. I’ll turn it off when we get down to business, but really, how would I get any of that clutter put away or the laundry folded during the day if I didn’t have a tv?

And do I get bonus points if we had sex last night?

Paiges last blog post..Close? Maybe not.

  56. I can thankfully say that I am an honor roll student for this challenge, since the beginning of our marriage we have had all of the above mentioned things in our bedroom.

A suggestion that my husband had for our marriage was that we fight anywhere in our home except in our bedroom, he never wanted to associate any of those feelings to our intimate connection.

  57. ruth a. stiles says:

hubby and I only had a tv in our room for like 6 months and we hardly ever used it….now the kids have it in their toy room….also…We switched bedrooms with the boys so we have less room…room for bed, 2 night tables, and a dresser…It is completely organized and easy to keep clean. There are a few pics on the wall b/c the boys were in there but I plan on taking them down today. I have a big problem with the ceiling light-aka spotlight-turned on….I have tons of candles so why don’t I use them I ask myself? I need to find them….
Music…we are not much of a romantic music couple….what? turn the radio on and in the middle of sex song ends and a commercial comes one? HAHAHA I don’t think so!
Anyways…I look forward to next week!

  58. I am still trying to sort out what it left of my bedroom after a the Christmas crafting tornado that came through but I think it is time it was a bedroom again.

  83. Just joining this great idea. Will definately be decluttering the room this week. It has been on my to do list for weeks, just can’t seem to get caught up with the laundry. The laundry will wait until the bedroom is done. Here’s a compromise for the pics. Our room is decorated with beach things. We have pics of the kids but they are siloettes of their backs at the beach, or just of their toes in the water.

  84. Jaime says:

    2. No pics of the kids in our bedroom.

    3. I am a neat freak! No clutter anywhere in my house!

    4. Got the candles in there already!

    5. This one is hard. My taste in romantic mood music is not my husband’s taste. He isn’t even into music!

Only one problem… our 9 week old son is in our room! So my “fixing the boudoir” is going to have to be “fixing the living room”! lol
