Some random updates: also known as "yet another blog post with the word random in the title"

  • Two weeks from today I will be in the Dominican Republic. That thought delights and overwhelms me. But I have just found out that I will get to meet the child that I have sponsored for ten years. And THAT thought takes my breath away. God is so good.
  • Today I also found out that the very first day we take a 3 hour bus ride through curvy mountain roads. Have I mentioned how horribly car sick I get? Must get to drug store to buy a case of Dramamine. And possibly a tranquilizer gun. Do they sell those at CVS?
  • I have decided to wean Silas. Our schedule in the DR is too unpredictable and the last thing I want to do is to be engorged, doped up on Dramamine, and begging the World Vision staff to put me out of my misery. It was an extremely hard decision. Especially since I am pretty confident I am done procreating and I love nursing. Oh and Silas won’t take a bottle. He doesn’t cry or anything, he just sits with the bottle in his mouth flashing you his adorable smile. Dang I love that kid.
  • The hubby and I are going to Cape Cod this weekend for a wedding. Without kids. Can I get a HALLELUJAH? Although maybe not one in all caps because I am going to miss them so much a week later when I am away. But still, the hubby and I need some husband and wife time instead of just mommy and daddy time.
  • Lily came home today and said one of her classmates got in trouble for saying weiner. The hubby and I maturely responded by breaking out into ridiculous amounts of laughter. When we caught our breath we asked her what she thought that meant. She correctly answered. When we asked her how she knew that she said she asked a boy in her class. Ah innocence. And mature parenting.
  • Hannah’s new phrase that she says quite regularly is “oofy baby”. Translation= oopsy daisy. If anyone ever corrects her I will hurt you.
  • I was desperately trying to come up with 10 interesting things to post about so I could participate in Top Ten Tuesday, but I just can’t. And although having nothing to say has never stopped me before, it is after 10 and by some miracle of miracles my inbox is empty, my google reader is read and I am all twittered out. I might just go to bed. Probably not, but it is a lofty goal.

I hear ginger helps motion sickness. Well, nausea. They make suckers for preggo women with it. I think they’re preggo-pops. It may help, hope you do well while you’re there!

  2. Your trip to the Dominican Republic sounds amazing. I can’t wait to read about it.

Good luck with the weaning. I know when I was pregnant with my first I thought breastfeeding was so weird, but wanted to try it out for the health benefits. Turns out I absolutely love it and was so sad to wean him. I did travel when he was young, though, and it was such a pain to find a place to pump every couple of hours and dealing incessantly with engorged and leaky breasts (not to mention pretty embarrasing).

  6. As I was reading your wonderful, random post, I thought I should mention that ginger is excellent for a natural motion sickness remedy. Then I read your comments and it looks like a reader beat me to it! She is right, ginger is a powerful anti-inflammatory and helps with queasy stomachs! Pack a bunch of it and have an amazing trip!
