Shopping With Golden Tote

Golden Tote

It is no secret that I love clothes shopping. I honestly can’t remember a time in my life that wasn’t true. I love clothes, I love the shopping process, I love putting outfits together. So one would think the new trend of internet styling services would be my happy place. And they are! But not all stylist services are created equal.

I tried Stitch Fix awhile back and could not have been more disappointed. All over blogs and Facebook my friends were raving about their “fixes”, but when my first one came it was just awful. Like not even close. Nothing was my style. Nothing even fit right. It was an epic fail. So I just decided to swear off Stitch Fix forever.

Then I started reading about Golden Tote on several different sites and was intrigued. Instead of just getting a blind box (which was honestly a bit overpriced in my humble opinion), you actually get to pick out a few items from a monthly curated collection. You have your choice of two boxes. For $49 you can choose one item yourself and be surprised with 1-2 more items (valued at $250). Or for $149 you can choose two items and be surprised with 4-6 more items (valued at $600). I went with the $149 box so I could get a better idea of what Golden Tote offered.

You also fill out a semi-detailed style report so that the stylists picking out your “grab bag” have a good idea of what you like. You can specify whether you dress for work or casual. If you are preppy or edgy. What sizes you typically wear. Here is where I got skeptical that the profile would make a difference. But fingers crossed.

THEY NAILED IT. I loved everything in my box. The best part was many of the items they picked for me weren’t things I would necessarily pick in a store, but one I put them on I loved them. And I kid you not, when I am out and about wearing my Golden Tote items I get so many compliments.

Wanna see what I got? (Disclosure: I bought my tote with my own money and all opinions are completely mine):

First up, what I chose:

Eyelet Sweater 2

I loved this eyelet sweater. It really feels more like a sweatshirt. It is really soft and perfect for my casual life. I also picked these boyfriend jeans. I have head a pair of boyfriend jeans for a while, but they have started to look really dumpy on me. These fit a little slimmer and I think the darker wash makes them look less slouchy. I might get them shortened because they are really long, but I am 5’2″ so that is pretty standard.

Now the Golden Tote picks:

Plaid Shirt

I don’t know WHAT is going on with my eyes in the picture. Anyway, I keep getting compliments on this plaid shirt. It is like a rayon fabric with cotton sleeves. It can totally be casual or dressy, but lately I have just been throwing it on with shorts. It is super boxy and oddly enough reminds me of an 80s power suit. Which for some reason I am digging. Yes, it scares me a little, but I am going with it.

Striped Shirt 2

Now listen, I need another blue and white striped shirt like I need a hole in the head. I can go a bit overboard with the nautical theme. But I have decided you can never have enough blue and white striped shirts. And I don’t have one with pockets on it so that makes it TOTALLY different.

Black and Tan 2

Sorry for the blurry picture, my 10-year-old was in charge. When I first got this dress I was totally underwhelmed. This style never looks good on me because I carry all my weight in my waistline. But then I had a brilliant idea!!:

Black and Tan Dress

Suddenly it is a dress I could wear all year long. I am picturing it in a few weeks with tall boots and even in the winter with tights. I am not sure I am digging my shoe choice here now that I see pictures. I think I would choose a less heavy shoe.

Lace shirt

Finally this shirt might just be my favorite. The front is this beautiful cream lace. The sleeves are more of a sweatshirt style.

Lace back

And then the back is like a sheer dressier fabric. I loved it paired with olive. Neutrals are always a win. Again I picture this in the cool weather with skinny jeans and tall boots. Can I wear this shirt every day?

Here is the catch with Golden Tote: it is an all or nothing bag. You can’t pick or chose what you keep. You either keep the whole bag or return the whole bag. There is a Facebook group where you can trade or sell anything you don’t like. Thankfully I loved everything. But even if I didn’t like one thing, I still think the tote would be worth it for the cost and style.

I highly recommend you try Golden Tote. There is a little something for everyone in the September Box. Give it a try and see what you think!
