Oreck Grab-It & Steam-It Mop (Plus a GIVEAWAY)- Things I Love Thursday

TILT My house has a lot of hard wood floors and tile. And for the life of me, outside of getting down on my hands and knees (no thank you), I have not found a good way to keep them clean. So I set out to find a steam mop that does its job on Twitter.

I heard from a few people, but one of the first people to respond was Oreck. And far from being spammy, they just seemed like company really excited about their product. I checked it out on various sites and was happy with what I was finding. This looked like a great product.

So I reached out to Oreck and asked them if they would be willing to send me their Grab-It & Steam-It. And they happily agreed.

Just so that I would be able to accurately review the cleaning powers of the Grab-It & Steam-It I didn’t wash my kitchen floor for a few weeks. That is my story and I am sticking to it. Ahem. It was pretty bad. Silas had colored on part of it with markers, there were several smushed Craisins stuck, and some apple cider had spilled next to the fridge.

Everyone knows before you mop you have to sweep. I hate sweeping. I sweep like 10 times a day because my life seems to be full of crumbs. But the Grab-It & Steam-It has BOTH a Turbo Broom AND a Steam Mop. So I am going to be kicking that nasty broom to the curb.

oreckvaccuum

As for the nastiness of my floor. It was no match for the Grab-It & Steam-It. It has a steam dial so you can choose how much steam you want depending the kind of floor you are cleaning. Since my floor was pretty gross I dialed it up kind of high for hard wood, but in the future, hard woods can be cleaned on the lowest setting. And it has a crazy long cord which allowed me to do three rooms in my house without unplugging it.

A few of the stains that had been there for longer than I care to admit were a little bit more challenging to get up, but with a few times over the spots and a little help from my finger nail, they came right up. My bathrooms and bedrooms that were far less foul were super easy to clean. My parents even noted when they came over how great my floors looked.

One of my favorite things about the Grab-It & Steam-It is that it takes NO chemicals to clean. One of my goals for 2012 (and why not start a little early) is to clean up our cleaning. So it is really important to me to have equipment that lets me do so. It also uses washable cleaning pads so I am not throwing things away with every use. Green cleaning!

The downsides I see is that has a swiveling head which allows it to get into tight spaces and corners. While that is an awesome feature, sometimes the head starts to swivel when you don’t want it to. And to be honest there are some edges and corners that it just can’t get to. But in its defense I am not sure if there is anything that does it better.

The Oreck Grab-It & Steam-It mop retails for around $180, but Oreck has generously offered one to my readers just in time for Christmas. I am so excited for this great giveaway!! There are several ways to enter and you will need to leave a SEPARATE comment each entry. :

Disclosure: I received a free steam mop in order to facilitate my review, but as always all opinions are my own. Seriously people. I CLEANED five rooms today. That is how excited I am about this thing. Oreck Corporation provided the prize for the sweepstakes but is not the sponsor of the sweepstakes.

SWOONING over this! I’m preggo with our first, and my entire 1st floor is hard flooring surfaces. Starting to think about how I don’t want my child learning to crawl on chemicals…or putting things in his or her mouth that were on the floor cleaned with chemicals!

I LOVE that it works on low-pile carpet, too–so I can just keep going from my hardwood in the dining room to the area rug I have under the table!
Is it possible to be in love with a floor cleaning device? Because I think I am!! :)

  10. LOVING this!! This has been on my wish list. One thing I learned from the Oreck website is that the temperatures produced by the steam mop is high enough that it will kill bacteria. Maybe that would help with all the germs lying around and all the colds that the family gets during the winter. I also love that it works on carpet and will “rejuvenate” it…My carpet is not exactly new :))

  25. I learned that it will “Rejuvinate flattened carpet.” That is awesome. I also learned that it can kill bacteria, and with two kids and two dogs, Lord only knows what kinda nasty ick is on my floor. And I love that it is chemical free because we are all very sensitive to cleaning products around these parts.

    Thanks for the chance!

  54. I am a crazy lady when it comes to sweeping and mopping. My husband thinks its an addiction! Ha! It really is the fact I live with three boys in my house and it gets crazy messy. I SO need this! One of the things I hate is being on my hands and knees wiping down our hard wood floors. Truth be told, if I did win as much as I want it I would surprise my mom. She cleans houses and has to literally scrub on her hands and knees. She never complains but I know its hard for her. What a blessing this would be for her!!

P.S. Did you know it can hold 21 ounces of water that will provide about 30 minutes of steam. Less time refilling means cleaning gets done faster! LOVE IT!!!

  55. The Grab It and Steam It Mop looks like a lifesaver!! I HATE mopping…and not because I hate the work, or how it looks the minute after I’m done…but because of how it looks 5 minutes after I’m done, and I’ve allowed the kids to walk their cute little bare feet on it and leave little footprints in the film. Film…grrr…

So, the first thing I looked to learn, was if it works on hardwood floors…and it does!!! :)

I visited their site. It has many great features, but living in a 4 level split home, 3 of which are laminate wood and ceramic tile, with lots of stairs – I think the best noticeable feature would be how light-weight it is (8.1lbs without water & 9.6 with). Now we have 4 kids, 2 dogs & 2 cats. I vacuum daily instead of sweeping to get all that hair, so to be able to vacuum and mop all at the same time would save me loads of time. As I need to mop at least twice a week, this would be such a great help.
