Now that you are 4

cupcake I love that you’re the age where birthdays are still the end all be all of your little existence. For weeks (well probably months) you have asked how many days until your birthday. You have told me you wanted a Dora cake (which later evolved into cupcakes). You told me the ONLY thing you ever wanted was some swimming dog you saw when I let my PBS-only guard down at let you watch Nickelodeon. Stupid commercials promoting an even stupider $30 plastic swimming dog. You got an inflatable swimming pool instead and quickly christened it the BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!! Watching you and your sister giggle while playing today made my heart so full.

You bring such joy to our family. Your smile lights up the room and you are truly one of the happiest people I know. I hope you don’t outgrow your zest for life. You keep us all entertained with your sense of humor and impromptu dance recitals. I am so glad you love music as much as your big sister. I can’t wait to take you two to every musical known to man.

Speaking of big sisters, you think yours is the greatest thing on earth. Watching the two of you delight in each other is one of my favorite things. Of course watching the two of you bicker at each other makes me want to gouge my eyes out, but thankfully there is much more of the former than the later. And now that you are a big sister yourself, I could not be more proud of how you have handled that roll. Mothering is something that seems to come natural to you and I love how gentle and helpful you are when it comes to your little brother.

You are a mommy’s girl through and through. Although sometimes it drives me nuts that I am the only person you want secretly it is nice to still be so needed. Well on most days it is nice. You are a great little cuddler, always snuggling up so you can get your back scratched. I keep my nails long just for you. I treasure these few years where you get to be my little buddy during the day. With Silas so little and Lily gone at school all day we have so much time to play UNO and color and bake. I will miss you when you are no longer my little partner in crime. Quit growing up so fast, will ya!!

Hannah, thanks for giving us 4 years of joy and laughter. I am so proud of the little lady that you are becoming.

  1. What a cutie-patootie she is! Don’t you just love this stage? They act like little grownups! So cool! You just want to freeze-dry them–really at every stage. Each brings its own awesomeness. Congrats to you both, Mom!
