Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

prayer2  I have mentioned many times that Hannah has a bit of a speech delay. Which makes daily life quite entertaining at times and at others makes me want to bang my head against a wall. She does such a good job trying to be understood, but sometimes even our go to translator, Lily, is at a loss. But lately I have really noticed Hannah attempting more and more words.

One of her favorite things to do now that she can talk is to pray. She insists on praying at all our meals (and throws quite the tantrum if someone else tried which I am pretty sure negates the point) and loves bedtime prayers. It has been delightful to watch these prayers evolve.

When she first started doing prayers, we had a few people in our life who were unemployed or frustrated with their jobs so we were frequently praying for them. So her prayers pretty much consisted of listing everyone she knew and praying for their jobs. Including me. And Lily was always quick to point out that I have no job. I tell you, stay at home moms are never going to get the respect they deserve if their own subordinates don’t value their hard work.

Last week, we moved on from job security (recession? what recession) and she began praying every night for her body. Like she lists and points to every single part she knows and thanks God for it. Eyebrows, chin, elbows- they all get equal billing. Sometimes she turns as does me too. She pries my mouth open sticks her finger in and points to my teeth and tongue. Gouges her finger in my eye and thanks God for that. It’s a precious, precious time.

Anyway, I sometimes have trouble understanding what she is saying so actually in this case the pointing helps cause I can understand what she is actually saying. Which in this case is NOT a good thing. Cause for the last two nights while doing my face, she has pointed to my forehead and clearly said,

“Thanks for Mommy’s lines…” (or tanks mommy yines)
