There is a part of me that wants to get a sleeve tattoo, turn in my tiny nose stud for a ring, and dye a big old pink streak in my hair. A part that wants to sky dive and bungee jump and learn to pilot my own plane. A part that wants to go back to school and learn to be a chef or audition for a Broadway musical. In other words there is a part of me that is a risk taker.
She inhabits a pretty small part of me though. She sneaks out from time to time in the form of a tasteful well hidden tattoo and a itty bitty diamond in my nose. She doesn’t get much riskier than that though. Although I have always wanted to be edgy I am quite vanilla. You can take the girl out of small town Iowa, but…….
Add on to that that I am pushing 40 and driving a minivan. OY VEY!!
Oddly enough as I near 40 (shut up though, I am NOT THAT CLOSE), I also feel the most comfortable in my skin I have ever felt. And I am taking mini risks here and there. No sleeve tattoos (maybe for my 40th birthday?), but printed jeans and big bold necklaces. Those seem like the kind of risks a mom of three who drives a minivan just might be able to pull off.
What kind of risks do you take, fashion or otherwise?
