Mascara Help – Things I Love Thursday

TILT I am turning the tables on you today because I am having a mascara crisis. I feel like my lashes are thinning out. Because suddenly every mascara I own (which is oddly enough four kinds) is just not cutting it. Unlike my hubby, who was blessed with thick, long, beautiful lashes (seriously God? He is a guy. Waste!!), my lashes are kind of measly. So I need some help in the volumizing department. But I think I have been buying things that are more for lengthening. Which I need too, but I am thinking I need to focus more on volume. This post totally sounds like I spend long hours of the day devoted to thinking about my eyelashes, but that is not the case. I just tend to not wear a lot of eye makeup (because I consistently manage to apply it so that it looks like it was done by drunken monkeys), so I need the mascara to really help my eyes pop.

So what mascara do you love? I am kind of a drug store cheapie, but am not opposed to shelling out some cash if it will make me look fabulous. Clearly if you saw my hair salon bill you would know this to be true. So hit me dear readers. I want to be writing a post in the near future (possibly even with pictures) about a fabulous mascara that I love, love, love.

Yeah, I cheated a little this week, but I run this here carnival so I can do that. As Bobby Brown once so wisely said (sang? rapped?), it’s my prerogative. What are you loving this week. Feel free to cheat as well. It is a free for all in 2011. Write a post about something you love. Please throw a link back this way. Then paste your URL below into my friend Mr. Linky. Spread the comment and traffic love to other participants. It is super easy, but if you want a little more help, check out the Things I Love Thursday Guidelines. And thanks as always for linking up. You make me so very happy.

  1. Sorry Jill, I can’t help you out with your crisis…I have the shortest lashes around and I’ve never found anything that really works!

However, if you do come across anything…let me know!

  3. Just don’t start taking that medicine that makes your lashes longer and oh, by the way, might permanently change the color of your eyes. I saw a commercial for it featuring Claire Danes and having been having nightmares about her hairy scary eyelashes as well as her career ever since.
    See you at Blissdom!

  4. I love, love, LOVE the Motives Lustrafy mascara!!!

  5. Wish I could help, but I don’t wear mascara. I have OK lashes and am generally very, very lazy about wearing makeup. My son has my dark lashes, and I seriously hope my daughter ends up with them too, or she will probably be really ticked. Best of luck in your search.

I have recently fell in love with Loreal double extend lash tubes. It thickens and extends your lashes with a 2 coat formula. You wash it off with a washcloth and the little “tubes” come off of your lashes.
    I love this stuff!!

  7. My husband and my son have great lashes too — seriously, what is up with that?
I’m going to be checking back for everyone’s answer (Sorry that I don’t have one..)

  8. I use Mary Kay and really like it, but mine are pretty thick to start with so I might not be a great example.

  9. i actually linked up for the first time in AGES!
but i can’t help you on the mascara thing – sorry – but I buy my makeup at Aldi – the cheap grocery store. yeah that makes me sound really really cheapskatey. and i am. it’s not bad makeup actually, for the price. but if i ever get rich, i’m buying clinique make-up. I love their foundation and i’ve heard good things about their mascara too.

  10. My go-to mascara is Maybelline Full n Soft. I think it’s great, and I always wear the waterproof kind. It comes off easily with baby oil or makeup remover, and doesn’t smudge or flake all day long!

  11. So I have used Loreal Voluminous mascara for years and LOVE it. My lashes are middle of the road and I won’t use anything else. However, I’m guessing you’ve tried that. I did just hear about a small “sampler” style mascara pack at Sephora that supposedly has 5 or 6 small tubes of some fancy-shmancy mascaras so you can test them out. I want to say its around $20, but I could be totally wrong. I have also seen commercials for stuff that is supposed to thicken up your lashes (like Latisse, the Brooke Shields commercial, only in mascara form). No clue what the name is on that. sorry. Good luck with your search! Looking forward to hear what you end up with!

  12. I’ve always used Mary Kay or whatever happens to be on sale at Walgreen’s. But if I want my lashes to actually look like I have any I use an Aura lash thickener/conditioner thingy that you put on before the mascara.

  13. I’m loving Mally Volumizing Mascara. It’s the only one I’ve found so far that is both volumizing and doesn’t flake! You can find it at QVC.com, here’s a link:

(Nice thing about QVC is if you don’t like it, you can return it!)

  14. I used to be a Lancome mascara snob, and then I discovered that fat orange tube by CoverGirl. Not even sure what it is called, but you can’t miss it. At Target, they often have it with the sundries in the checkout line. Lash Blast – I think that’s it. Anyway, it’s a great bargain and it’s all I use anymore.

  15. I like what JoLynne likes- the CoverGirl Lash Blast, but you might want to try the purple tube. I think that that one lengthens and thickens both. Mascara is my one go to make-up just about every day and I LOVE this mascara. I’ve used it for a couple of years now which says a lot because I usually buy whatever make-up I can get with ECB’s at CVS.

  16. I recently bought E.L.F {Eyes,Lips,Face} mascara. It was a $1 and I was in a bind, so I figured I didn’t have much to loose. I really love it. It doesn’t run and comes in a tube that has two options – waterproof on one side, regular on the other.

I LOVE Diorshow!!!!! The best mascara I have ever used, and believe me, I have used them ALL! I also like Tarte “Lights, Camera, Lashes”, but I have heard mixed reviews from other people that have tried it. I think you would really like the Diorshow because it stretches your lashes, but also thickens like crazy. LOVE IT!!

  18. I agree with the recommendation for Cover Girl Lash Blast!! Awesome stuff!!

  19. I don’t have a mascara I love either. However, I just wanted to say that it is my belief that all men have gorgeous lashes because they never curl them and copious amounts of mascara. :) Sadly, I still do it and watch my lashes get shorter and thinner every year. Sigh.

  20. Jill- No more worries my blogging friend I am here to save the day AND your fabulous eye lashes. I have terrible lashes and have tried EVERY type of mascara on the market. Here is the one I LOVE… L’Oreal Voluminous in Carbon Black. {Make sure and use an eye lash curler first. It always helps and takes like one minute} The best thing is you can get it at CVS or Target. I have spent $50 for a mascara before and this is WAY better and it’s under $10. So, hope it helps and hope your lashes look fabulous!

Let me know if you try it! :)

  21. BeautiConrol has some GREAT mascara! I use the SpectacuLash® Maximum Volume Mascara Black or Black/brown and it is only $10. My right eye is thinning faster than my left and this really helps them look even!! :)

Check out my website…We have a GREAT new skin care product that was just released this month. I LOVE IT!

  22. I like Diorshow mascara – the plain, original one, not the ‘iconic’ or other variations they make. I use the black and it works really well. It isn’t cheap but it is the best one I’ve used, and like you, I’ve tried loads! I have been using it for about three or four years now.

    Thanks for hosting!

  23. I’m a cheap, drugstore make-up person, too. I wait for the Revlon buy one get one sales and stock up. I’m interested to see what you find out. My lashes are pretty average, but mascara is kind of non-negotiable for me.

I don’t like mascara because I’m always rubbing my eyes. Eye shadow can’t last long either lol!

My blog is quite different and doesn’t sell stuff because I’m not in the US right now. I won’t be for a while but I follow sites that sell stuff :)
Please visit my blog if you can and follow if you fancy.

    Nice website btw!

  25. I have a similar problem, but *sigh* mine is mostly my own fault. Can’t help it, but when I get nervous, I pick at my eyelashes…like, as in, pick them OUT of my eyes. Ugh, I know.

    I use this:

I love it because you don’t get the tarantula look with coats and coats, but the primer makes my lashes nice and full before I even put the black stuff on. I can get it on ebay (obviously) for pretty cheap. I use the double ended one, but I think if you find a fab mascara that you love, you can just get the primer and it won’t hit your wallet too hard.

Please let us know when you compare! I’m always on the lookout for bigger and better. :)

  26. Here’s your love ;)

I heart Lancome Definicils with a passion. It’s almost 30 bucks. A VERY sufficient alternative is Cover Girl Lash Blast. You can get it at the drugstore WITH coupons. It will make your heart, your husband, AND your lashes happy.

    You’re welcome.
