Laugh Your Way Through Despicable Me 2

Despicable Me 2

Last weekend I had the pleasure of seeing a sneak peek of Despicable Me 2. It is a fun perk of my blog to get to treat my kids to a movie or two but I never know quite what we are going to get. I am pretty picky about kid’s movies so I always a little nervous.

I actually hadn’t seen the original Despicable Me when I got invited on this preview. So Friday, during a rainy afternoon we rented it and proceeded to laugh and cry through the next few hours. I fell in love with Gru, his girls and of course, The Minions. It was hard to imagine a sequel topping it.

Thankfully I completely underestimated Universal Studios. I don’t want to give away too much of the plot, but Gru stays reformed, the girls are feisty as ever, the minions hilarious and there is a few love stories along the way.

We laughed so hard, literally out loud throughout the movie. There were a few really touching parts. And in the end, good triumphs over evil. My kids, from the 3 year old to the…… 39 year old (seriously, the hubby was laughing harder than anyone) all can’t stop talking about it and want to know when we can go back.

You should know there is gun violence in the movie (although they are shooting out jelly), some teenage romance and the word butt is used more times than I would like. Then again, see above. My hubby seems to still be enamored with butt jokes. Sigh.

Despite those caveats, I whole heartedly recommend this movie for the whole family. The minions have so completely won me over I am rooting for a trilogy. It is the perfect movie for a 4 day weekend since it opened today.

I was provided with movie passes but was not required to blog about my opinions. My minion crush can not be bought.

  1. This is good to know! I was just thinking that we should catch a movie tomorrow and couldn’t decide between this and Monsters University. I haven’t seen the original Despicable Me, either, though – think I could get away with not seeing it first?
