Labor Day Meme

birth   I did this meme last year on Labor Day and since I forgot what day it was and didn’t post last night I thought I would do it again. Even though I am only at 33 weeks, I spent part of Saturday in the hospital with and unruly uterus that wouldn’t stop contracting. It has calmed back down (mostly) and I am drinking so much water I am turning into a mermaid. So I am anxiously awaiting my own “labor day” to add a new story to the mix. Feel free to play along.

How long were your labors?

Lily: 12 hours, but the first 5 nothing much was going on.
Hannah: 2 hours at the most. She was born 53 min. after we got to the hospital

How did you know you were in labor?

Lily: water broke
Hannah: suddenly those fake contractions that I had been having for 20 weeks began to organize themselves. Kinda like a union of labor contractions.

Where did you deliver?

Hospital. Hopefully we will make it there this time.

Drugs?

Lily: wanted to go natural. Not sure why. Made it to around 8 centimeters. Then begged for the drugs

Hannah: Begged for the drugs, but labor went too fast. Delivered naturally. Still waiting for my medal.

C-section?

Nope.

Who delivered?

Lily: A doctor in my regular doctor’s practice. With forceps. With her leg propped up on the bed while she pulled. Delightful.

Hannah: I guess a doctor. The lovely nurses kept telling me not to push until the doctor got there. He walked in and over to introduce himself. It went something like this. “Hi, I’m Dr…whoa…(grabbed gloves and caught baby).

Let me know in the comments if you participated in the meme so I can read about your pain joy.

  4. Isn’t this fun on Labor Day? I don’t know what’s worse – going for too long, or being as quick as you were with the last one. That’s a little nerve wracking! I did this one too.

  7. Glad you haven’t had your third yet :D We had a scare too (I’ll be 35 weeks tomorrow) and Friday I was having labor-type contractions like crazy. Guzzled water, got a bunch of extra protein and calories (I’ve really struggled with getting the amounts of nutrients in my diet that pregnancy requires..) and my midwife has me taking a calcium/magnesium supplement now.
So my uterus has calmed down a lot, but I still have contractions when I’m up and trying to work on stuff… So then it’s back to bed for me.
Man, and we’re remodeling our house – we’re living in the den right now, and I wanna be working on finishing it so that we will be in our new bedroom when the baby comes :D (No, we weren’t stupid enough to remodel while I was pregnant, but we did buy a house that ended up needed the electric COMPLETELY redone, and had to move in before we could finish the remodeling, so… Okay, maybe it was still stupid. But in this economy, in this town, buying a cheap house on credit will save you a lot more than living in an apartment :D )

You take it easy – I don’t think either of us want preterm babies :D (the mental image of my baby being hooked up to a ventilator is enough to make me willing to go on bed-rest; and that’s saying something!)

  14. Hee hee, all I remember is that I too opted for ‘the natural way’. My first child was a sunnyside up baby (meaning there wasn’t any way she could be born naturally). My labor plans quickly switched to 3 simple words:

    drugs drugs drugs!

    Never will forget that time….
