It's The Pay It Forward Book Exchange!

A while ago I highlighted a new great contest going on over at Overwhelmed With Joy! The general concept is that once a month she is giving away a book and whoever wins in turn will give away that book to another contest winner. Well, I won and I am passing on the book to you. Because I am in a super-duper giving mood, I am also giving away one of my books to add to the giveaway fun.

So my first giveaway is the original book, Lucky by Alice Sebold.

Alice Sebold’s courageous Lucky describes her experience as a student at Syracuse University.Alice is an intelligent young woman constantly trying to fit in and make new friends. On the last day of freshman year, her virginity and innocence are taken when she is brutally raped. After the assault, things in Alice’s life change. People start to whisper in the hallways, and her friends look at her differently. At home, Alice’s parents don’t know how to deal with her situation and try to pretend nothing happened. When Alice returns to school her friends, once supportive, coldly ask why she would come back. She is restricted to living in an all-girls dormitory and walking outside only during the day; the rapist begins to control her life.Alice becomes friends with her English professor, who urges Alice to write about her rape to release her feelings. Alice creates an emotional poem about wanting revenge, which baffles her classmates. After class one day Alice encounters her rapist and runs to the police station. Now he has a name – he’s Marshall, not just “The Rapist” anymore. Few rape cases ever get to court but Alice is “lucky” to land a case in front of a grand jury.

I found this book to be extremely powerful and hard to put down, but I will warn you at times it is graphic. If that doesn’t bother you, I would highly recommend this book.

My second giveaway is Dreaming in Black & White by Laura Jensen Walker.

She’s smart. She’s savvy. She’s…well, she’s working on the thighs. And with God as her witness, she’ll never let that man spoil her happy ending!

Phoebe Grant is everyone’s favorite movie geek-unbeatable at trivia, convinced that all the world’s a movie screen. She can organize a four-hankie chick-flickathon with a wave of her tall, nonfat, double mocha. And she’s a shoo-in for the job of her dreams-movie reviewer for the newpaper where she works.

Enter Alex Spencer-not only gorgeous but also a film buff, perfectly cast for a celluloid kiss and a fade to sunset. Unfortunately, Alex is the villain who sends Phoebe packing to the last place on earth she wants to be-back home to boring little Barley, California.

But wait. It couldn’t be. Dark, handsome, and annoying Alex…in Barley?

Can Phoebe protect her hometown-and her heart-and prove It’s a Wonderful Life? Or is her promising future truly Gone with the Wind?

It’s some fun, light-hearted, Christian chick-lit. Translation: chick-lit without the sex.

OK, here are the rules:

  1. On your blog, write a post about this giveaway, using my “Pay It Forward” button, and then link back to this post. I am sure your readers would appreciate learning about the chance to win a book. You must complete this step to be put in the drawing! It would also be great if you could mention Overwhelmed with Joy and link back to her site.
  2. Sign the Mr. Linky (the Mr. Linky is that list of names at the end of this post – just type your name in the box) with your name and URL by end of day on Friday Aug. 10th. Note: If you are not a blogger, you may still enter. Just sign your name on the Mr. Linky without a URL and then email me your contact information. Please note on your email that it is for the book giveaway. I will be doing the drawing on Saturday, Aug. 11th.
  3. Leave a comment telling me if you want to be entered into both drawings or just one or the other. If you don’t leave a comment I will enter you into both.
  4. If you’re the lucky winner of the book giveaway you will need to host a drawing to give that book away for free to one of your readers, after you’ve had a chance to read it. If you mail the book out using the media/book rate that the post office offers it’s pretty inexpensive. This way the bloggy love continues.

Stop by Overwhelmed with Joy! to check out all the other Pay it Forward Book giveaways going on.
