It's Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

mary-poppins.jpg  I think I have mentioned before that I am pretty selective about letting my kids watch TV or movies. Actually outside of Veggie Tales, Lily hasn’t really watched any movies. To substitute we watch clips for various movies on You Tube as I mentioned in a previous Works For Me Wednesday. One of Lily’s favorites to watch are clips from Mary Poppins. So last week I rented the movie from our local library (free rentals!!). All week I built up the chance to watch it on the weekend. I will not lie, it was thrown out as a bribe for good behavior more than once.

So we got home from Chicago on Sunday afternoon and settled in for a movie. A few minutes in, the hubby was snoring, but Lily was mesmerized. Every few minutes she would say, “How does she do that?” I would tell her it’s magic. Her eyes would get big and she would say “I wish I could do that.” She loved the movie and immediately wanted to watch it again as soon as it was over. And that is one long kiddie movie. At the end, she turned to me and said “Mama, that was greater than I even thought it was going to be” as she snuggled up next to me. These are the moments…

  1. That’s great! I was thinking about getting that for my kids. I love it when they watch movies I liked growing up.

  2. We love that movie so much was bought it on DVD!

  3. And I have wonderful memories of snuggling with Lily’s mom and sharing my love for just such great movies. So glad it has become generational. I love it!!!!

  4. Very cute :) I’ve been dying to see Mary Poppins the musical, I’ve heard it’s amazing. Glad to see she enjoyed it.

  5. Funnily enough we just watched that last week. Clare was home sick from school, and she wanted to watch it – of course I said yes because it’s one of my favs too!

I love it! That’s actually one of my all-time favorite movies. Can’t wait to have kids so I have an excuse to watch them all over and over again.

  7. It’s one of our favorites. Your post is just added proof that some moms are good and limit tv usage. I must aim higher!

  8. So sweet! I love Mary Poppins. I think it is a Broadway show now! I would LOVE to see that!

One of my finest moments was when I choreographed “Chim Chiminey” for our Swing Choir in high school. Man, was I good.

  9. so sweet! we don’t let our son watch any tv or tv shows on dvd, the only thing he’s ever seen (about 10 times since last winter) is Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas. i can’t seem to find anything out there that i feel as good about him watching.

I love that movie. I doubt my son will ask for it though, even when he learns how to talk ; )

Let’s Go Fly a Kite was one of the songs that I used to sing to the girls when they were babies and I would get the biggest belly laugh out of them. I would fly them around as if they were kites. It is still one of the songs my youngest sings to herself throughout the day. I think that since we mostly watch only musical type movies, my girls must think that is how everyone lives…singing and dancing throughout their day!
