Happy Father's Day

tie I fully believe I was raised by the best father on the planet. You can try and argue with me, but good luck. I won’t hear any of it. Of course he has his flaws, but as each year I live I am more and more acutely aware of how many fathers just plain drop the ball. And as a woman, I am more and more award of how detrimental that is.

So now I am a mom of 2 daughters. Thankfully, I married the best dad on the planet. Yes, I know I just said that about my dad, but they will have to arm wrestle for the title cause I think they are both fantastic. Again, you can try and argue that your hubby is better, but I will just cover my ears and shout “la, la, la, la, la” cause I know in my heart it just isn’t true.

I completely realize one of the reasons I married my hubby is because my standards were high. I wanted a man like my daddy. Never mind my college dating history. I was foolish and young. But post stupid dating era, my standards were high. I also recognize one of the reasons my husband is the father he is is because his father was a great father to him. So the cycle hopefully continues. I pray that my daughters will not settle for anything less than a man who cherishes and adores them.

I know some of you ache for fathers who express love instead of distance. I know some of you ache for a husband who would cherish you and your children. So my prayer for you on this difficult day would be that you somehow hear the voice of your Father who would tell you that He knew you and loved you before you were even formed. I don’t mean to sound simplistic, but Augustine tells us that we all have a God shaped hole in our heart. I pray today, that God would fill that hole to overflowing.

  4. Thank you for this post. I especially love the last paragraph. While I read this, I am amazed at God’s grace in giving me the Daddy who was amazing in raising me to feel loved and cherished, and marrying a man who adores our son and unborn child. What an amazing blessing God gives us to see a glimpse of our Heavenly Father.
