Happy Birthday Lily!- Things I Love Thursday

TILT How is it even possible that I have an 8 year old? I can’t even comprehend that it is happening.

Eight is such a great age. It is the age where you still want to hold my hand in public. Hug me goodbye in the morning. And talk to me about your friendships.

So you “pretend” to be embarrassed when I sing loudly in the car. And you roll your eyes when we shop and I point out clothes I think are cute (when did this start happening? I am super fashionable). And lately you are starting to sound more and more like someone from the movie “Valley Girls”

When we are out at places where your friends are I see the pull to occasionally be near me as much as you want to be with them. It is like you are trapped between two worlds, but still mostly in the one where I am awesome. I know that I only have a few years left in that world so I am treasuring every minute of it.

Your love of life and laughter is contagious. So is your generous spirit. I would love it if you would grow up to be a saver, but I can’t help but love that you are constantly looking for presents to buy for the people you love that you think might brighten their day. Or how generous you are when you hear about a cause that moves you.

I love that at school you are a friend to everyone. And when you get a whiff of girl drama you just find new people to play with. You have many years of girl drama ahead of you and I love that it just rolls right off your back. Keep that characteristic up.

I am too hard on you too often, but you are quick to forgive me. Tonight as you got out of the car you turned to me and told you that the best part of your day was spending the afternoon with me. The best part of my life is being a mom. Thanks for making me one 8 years ago.
