Happy 2010!!

Happy New Year    Hope you rang in the new year with a bang. I impressively made it until midnight. Barely. Dang I’m old. Let’s talk resolutions. I am not a fan. But the hubby and I have been talking about some things we want to focus on as a new year seems like a logical time to think about changes you’d like to make. So we’ll call them goals instead of resolutions.

Eat Healthier: We have made some small changes over the years that I am really happy about. Only wheat bread and pasta. Way less high fructose corn syrup. Less sweets around the house. But this year I want to ramp up the fruits and veggies and eat more foods that have way less ingredients. Plus I want to get rid of the last of this baby weight and I think this is key. I am a believer in introducing food changes slowly so you don’t overwhelm yourself and fail. So I will keep you posted.

Attack student loans: We are a big believer in not having debt. In our marriage we have only had our mortgage and my grad school loans as debt which I am really proud of. But these grad school loans are never ending and seeing as I haven’t worked in almost seven years they are beyond frustrating. So this year we are going to scrape to find some extra cash to throw their way this year. That way in the future I will have more money for shoes :)

More patient parenting: Ugh, talk about an overwhelming goals. I have just become quite convicted lately that I am not patient enough with my kids so I really want to work on it. And now it is out there on the blog so I really have to do it. I think the first key is more one on one time with each kid. They respond amazingly well to it and especially Lily seems to thrive on it. So we are making that a priority.

I think three is a good number. These already feel monumental and any more might just be a recipe for failure. So this is what I am focused on. Here’s hoping for at least a little success. How bout you? What are your goals/resolutions?

  3. I think your approach of writing down the resolutions is very helpful. Not to mention they are all things that will come with time so you may need to refresh by looking at this post again…that’s ususally what I have to do when I get off track. I’m right there with you on all three of those resolutions, especially being a more patient parent. For me it will mean clearing my schedule of stuff that isn’t really as much priority as my kids. Have to work on learning how to say no sometimes and create better boundaries for myself. Have a great day!

  4. I’ve never been a fan of resolutions either, but my husband and I also set some goals. I want to lose my baby weight and we bought a wii and wii fit with the money all our grandparents gave us, and we are going to try to exercise regularly, and take walks and jogs when the weather warms up – we want little boy growing up with exercise as a regular part of life, I want to get us back to eating healthy (that is, fewer sweets and eating out – I’ve let our nutrition slack with the new little one needing to nurse around cooking time so much!) and we want to do more bible reading as a family – having a baby to take care of really has made us want to organize our life!

  5. Wrote about mine to link up with HappyHousewife: http://twolittlevikings.blogspot.com/2010/01/2010s-goals-to-achieve.html

  6. I am in the same boat as you with baby weight loss. I found that tracking the number of calories I am consuming to be the simplest way to lose the weight. My littlest is 6 months old and I hope to be done losing weight this summer.
    Good goal list.

  7. know what I’m NOT resolving this year? To be a “better wife.” I love my surprise daughter (thanks again Jill), but we’ll be taking a little break in 2010. ;-) Happy New Year to you and your family!!!

  8. Great goals! Your health ones seem totally attainable (and sustainable!). Simple foods can be delicious and healthy.

I e-mailed you about coupon help soon – it’s one of my 2010 goals :)

  9. Definitely there with you on better managing debt and healthy eating!

Doing a more thorough job teaching and of course, finally writing that breakout novel are two more goals for me. We’ll see what God has in store;)

Hope your 2010 is the best yet!

  10. One of my resolutions is patient and present parenting. I too know that I should slow down and breathe before I get so impatient with my little ones. I look forward to reading about your journey…and getting ideas from you :)
    Happy New Year!

  11. I’m with you on those student loans. We are planning to eliminate my husband’s this year. Woo hoo! Mine will take several more years, unfortunately. But it will feel so darn good to wipe one of them out. Keep us posted on your progress!
