Graduation season is pretty much over but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good time for some #tbt (Throwback Thursday) pictures of graduation 90s style. Which means big hair, big jewelry and of course Chuck Taylors. Yes, if you look really closely you can see that I wore some red high top converse under my graduation gown. I think they were one of 5 pair I owned at the time.
Graduation was a given in my family. My parents are high school grads. As are parents before them. School wasn’t a struggle for me and graduating was definitely something I took for granted.
Around the world this definitely isn’t the case. Especially for girls. The horrors in Nigeria with Boko Harem certainly brought that to our attention. As well as Malala Yousafzai in Pakistan.
I recently discovered one of my friends from Chicago has started an amazing non-profit that partners with grassroots organizations serving children in developing countries throughout Africa and Latin America to provide children with healthcare, nutrition and education. Spark Ventures is currently asking people to partner with them in ensuring children around the world have the same opportunity to graduate that we in America so take for granted.
- Dig up that old graduation picture – The older the flash-back the better! Bonus points for adorable kindergarten graduation photos and awkward middle school graduation shots.
- Commit to supporting Spark’s work at any level – Your support will help ensure children in Zambia and Nicaragua get the nutrition, education and healthcare they need to reach graduation and become successful young adults in their community. (More on their model here.)
- Double your impact – all gifts of $50 or more will be matched 1:1!
- Share your photo and commitment with the hashtag #graduation4all – Let everyone in your network know about your commitment to give children around the world the resources they need to reach graduation. Need some inspiration? Find it here.
I know we all have an embarrassing graduation photo somewhere. Get that baby up and start tagging!!
