Frugal Fridays- A Frugal Halloween

frugalfridays.jpg Here are my tips how to enjoy the holiday without blowing the bank.

  1. Make your own costume: Unappealing to me cause I am not very creative, but very cheap if you are. Ok, maybe I could come up with something. Raid the closets, dress up bins and goodwill pile. These parents came up with some great ones. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind if you stole borrowed their ideas.
  2. Look for costumes throughout the year: I constantly find costumes at garage sales. Cheap costumes, often worn once. Ebay is another great place. Around Halloween time there is a big demand so prices go up, but throughout the year people sell costumes so buy at an off time. I got my daughter an adorable angel costume on ebay for $5 this year.
  3. Arrange a costume swap: I know I personally have 3 or 4 costumes sitting around my house waiting for a sibling to grow into it. I have a feeling I am not alone in this. Talk to your friends and ask them what they have. It is possible they have exactly the adorable clown costume you are looking for.
  4. Shop the day after Halloween:  Everything gets marked down crazy cheap. Buy next years costume and store it. Or put it in the dress up bin and get more than one use out of it.
  5. Chill out on the candy:I always buy way to much fearing I will run out. I never do and guess who gains 10 pounds over the holiday from all the leftovers. Save your waistline and buy less. If you run out, turn off the light and send the trick or treaters down the street.
