Frugal Friday- The Grocery Game

frugal-friday-2-736462 Since I am going to Blissdom tomorrow (Friday), I am pulling one out from the archives. I am too tired and have too much packing to do. Have a great weekend!! Can’t wait to tell you all about mine when I get back.

Recently, I stumbled on a way to save money on groceries that has been really paying off. I have been slashing my grocery bill in half with the added bonus of getting giddy at the store every time I look at my receipt. The only downside is the stares I get as I skip through the aisles whistling while forest creatures frolic around me (okay, so that doesn’t happen, but that is how good I feel after shopping).

The Grocery Game is a list you subscribe to that tells you when items reach their lowest prices through a combination of sales and coupons. I know a lot of people do this themselves, but I find it to be so time consuming with a big stack of circulars and coupons, comparing and running from store to store, that what I save in money I lose in valuable time. This site has the added benefit of finding unadvertised sales and tracking trends so that you buy at truly the lowest price rather than just when an item is on sale.

The website states that you will spend the first few months in a stockpiling phase and won’t see the real savings until after that, but I am found I saved $40-50 right off the bat. I am really stockpiling though. I need to get creative about storage and have “borrowed” some space in my parents freezer for a little while, but it is worth it.

The added deal is that if you join, you get the first 4 weeks for only $1. After that it is $5 every 8 weeks. Still very reasonable. If you would like to check it out, I would love it if you would use my email for a referral. I am not getting paid anything to promote them, but I do earn free weeks for referrals. I would not promote them however if I didn’t believe in the program.

My referral email is my personal email so don’t use the one on this website. However, if you are ,email me at thediaperdiaries (at) gmail (dot) com and I will share my other email with you. How exciting is that? I think that alone could just be incentive enough. The intrigue of it all.

  1. My sister-in-law does this. She says it really works too. I may have to break down and try it out.

BTW, I am hosting a giveaway right now on my blog for a beautiful handmade TuTu. I’m sure your girls would love them.

  3. maybe someone has told you this in the past, but there is a FREE website that does the same thing: thecouponmom.com. it’s not quite as “high tech” (it’s not color-coded, but does give you percentages saved, so you still have to do some thinking yourself to know if its a good deal), but, hey, it’s free. once we found thecouponmom, we cancelled our grocery game membership . . .

I agree with Katherine, thecouponmom does the same thing for free. I also use RefundCents dot com for more deal combining strategies. I just signed up for a 3 month membership for only 8 bucks and I’m very pleased. I will do the year membership for $30 when my 3 months are up.

  5. I love the grocery game. I’ve been playing for about 7 months and I have saved tons of money- and have a great stockpile. Even though Hurricane Ike set us back we have really saved in the long run!

  6. People really seem to like this site. They do not have my grocery store or I would give them a try.

  7. I use this and love everything about it except for the deals for my store don’t go up until Sunday (they go Thursday-Tuesday) so I have to wait until Monday to go grocery shopping. But that reminds me I need to go look at my list now.
