Frugal Friday- My Little Tax Deduction

sam Ok so obviously you shouldn’t have a kid to get a tax deduction. I am pretty sure the cost outweighs the deduction by a LARGE margin. But look at that little face. He is priceless. And worth all the frustration and pain of his arrival.

He will be known as Silas. It isn’t his name, but I don’t use my real kid’s names and Silas is one of my hubby’s favorite boys names so we are going with that. If you regularly read my blog, you might have remembered that last weekend I spent the night in the hospital in false labor only to be sent home frustrated. It wasn’t that Silas was late. In fact when I did in fact deliver him I was one day away from 38 weeks. It is just that I had enough of the false labor. On Mon night I was up from 2:30- 5:30 am with false labor and I was so freakin tired and annoyed.

By the grace of God on Tuesday morning, my hubby brought Lily to school only to realize he had left his work bag at home. By the time he got back home, I had started to bleed a little and although it didn’t look that bad I called into my OB. Then as I was trying to figure out what to do, my water broke. FINALLY I thought, they can’t send me home. We got to the hospital with me still feeling nice and comfy and they tested to make sure my water had in fact broke. Apparently people lie about such things just to get admitted. How very sad. And genius. Wish I would have thought of that last Friday. Just kidding of course. Mostly.

Anyway, I get the golden ticket in the form of a puddle on the floor and I finally reach the coveted labor and delivery room. Seriously, it was coveted. The corner room was HUGE. So I settle in with some bad daytime TV and try and get my contractions started. While my hubby eats a gigantic burger and fries and takes a nap. Apparently watching me pace, squat and try and get labor moving along is very exhausting for him. Payback is a b*tch as later on he will be forced to spend the night in a “chair bed” that should replace waterboarding in terrorist interrogations.

Anywho…contractions are happening, but that last hurdle of 8-10 is taking forever and darn it if Silas is not still stuck way high up refusing to make his appearance. I turn to Twitter where I have been “live tweeting” my birth so far and am feeling the love of the Twitterverse who are praying for me, cheering for me and giving me fantastic labor advice. I stopped tweeting right about then because it is “transition” time which still makes me think of the diagram from Lamaze class 6 years ago of a face with a very angry face.

Now, let me say for the record, I have always wanted to do birth naturally. I am not a fan of medications despite having a ridiculously low pain threshold. I ended up getting an epidural with Lily after hours and hours of back labor and although I begged for one with Hannah, she came so fast (5-10 cm in 19 minutes and 2 pushes later) that I missed it. But this time I am really aiming for a natural birth. A decision I immediately begin to question the sanity of as I realize I have hit 10 centimeters, need to push, and this baby ain’t coming out like Hannah did. So midway through, I do what any sane person in the middle of labor does and announce that I am quitting thank you very much.

My hubby and nurses were the best coaches and the doctor keeps encouraging me by saying, “there you go, push like you have to poop!!!” over and over. Labor is such a sexy process. Finally Silas, who apparently was a little cockeyed in the canal, makes his appearance and just like they tell you, I forget. Well I don’t forget cause I am still a big ole mess, but I don’t care cause I am madly in love. Talk about “having me at hello.”

We are home and I am tired and overwhelmed a bit and did I mention tired. The post birth uterine contractions make me want to scratch my eyes out and I am still a little sore, but he is a nursing champ and the most gorgeous little thing. His two big sisters love on him and then forget about them and go there own way. His daddy currently has him snuggled on his chest sharing in their first father-son hockey watching extravaganza. So exhausted? Yes, but so, so full. Welcome Silas. Welcome home.

*this post was written after three consecutive nights of around 3-4 hours sleep so I am just going to assume you will forgive all grammatical errors and talk of poop. Just like you usually do when I post after a full night’s sleep. Thanks for being the best readers in the blogosphere!!
