Frugal Friday- Fancast.com

frugalfriday The hubby and I like ourselves some TV. But everything gets complicated in the fall. We have our must see TV together and then we have my trashy shows that my husband can’t stomach. It’s a sickness really. I am not even going to put out there what they are because it is just embarrassing. And things are further complicated by my hubby’s insane need to watch hockey every. single. freakin’. night. What is a DVR to do?

Typically we prioritize the DVR by what we can watch later online. Now that job just got a lot easier. I have written about Hulu.com before and I still love it, but it doesn’t cover all my online needs. It only covers certain shows and channels. Now I have discovered Fancast. And my DVR and hubby are going to love me for it. I can watch Glee, Modern Family….a certain trashy show set in a certain zip code (I am so embarrassed). It doesn’t cover all my shows (why won’t anyone show me the SYTYCD episode that didn’t tape this week???), but I found tons of shows that I love.

What I love about Fancast is not only that I can watch current shows I love, but it has a whole bunch of shows from back in the day. In fact, I was looking for the new V series (which, bummer I couldn’t find), but I found the old V from 1984. I totally remember watching that mini-series and being scared out of my mind. Somehow watching it as a 30-something it lacks a little something. Like any sort of believability or acting ability whatsoever.

Actually, here are some impressive facts about Fancast:

  • Fancast debuted in January 2008 and now has more than 10,000 hours of online video programming with more than 60,000 videos available, including over 13,000 full-length shows (more are being added every day)
  • Fancast is not only an agnostic online video site, aggregating tv content from more than 100 sources including Hulu by the way), but Fancast has more TV extras than any other site including: movies, pictorials, blogs, listings, live chats and Q&A’s with stars, and much more.

I am just going to confess that along with watching that zip code show I might have been excited to see that I could get caught up on gossip and watch the Rihanna/Diane Sawyer interview. I need an intervention! I could get addicted to this site. And why am I talking about it on Frugal Friday? It is FREE. I am telling you, I am ready to kiss cable goodbye.

  2. Hmmm . . . very interesting! My hubby and I are thinking about cancelling our cable after the Super Bowl (yes, football is a deal breaker in our home) but it would be nice to watch “something” every once in a while other than DVDs. Thanks for the heads up!

LOL I totally understand the hockey thing. I am in Canada and it is sacrilege to even suggest not watching Hockey Night in Canada EVERY.SINGLE.SATURDAY. My husbands beloved Maple Leafs have lost all but one game and still…..do not even think about changing the channel LOL! Love all your ideas.

  4. I LOVE trashy TV. I am the worst…but my husband is bad too. He’s really good about compromising on the shows we watch…i love him for that:) but I have to give this site a look! We love watching streaming shows from the computer! It’s great to catch up on ones I haven’t seen! Thanks!
