Frugal Friday- Cash In Those Points

Christmas season is somehow upon us. How did that possibly happen? Wasn’t it just April? Anyway, I am not always so great at planning and budgeting for Christmas. We always make it happen, but it isn’t always pretty. So this year I am making a list and checking it twice. And trying to not pay for anyone’s gifts.

I don’t advocate stealing, or re-gifting, or giving out lumps of coal. I am suggesting you get creative in finding ways to get presents. Yes, there is homemade, but if you saw my weekly MOPS crafts you would understand that that is completely out of the question. So for me my creativity comes in cashing in all my points.

We have a credit card that just has generic points. I am not big on using credit cards, cause you can definitely get in trouble, but we use it for bigger purchases and those points add up. So every year at Christmas I cash in the points for gift certificates. Same with the debit card which also accumulates points throughout the year. If you can be responsible with your spending and still get some points I think it is a win-win.

Then there are survey points that I accumulate from taking surveys throughout the year. Here are some survey companies that Biblical Womanhood compiled. Some of them “pay out” better than others so do your research. But I am amazed at how all those little surveys have added up.

Then there is of course begging. Who wants to send me free stuff? Anyone? I’ll plug you on my blog….

  1. oooooo thanks for the survey link! I am a part of 3 different survey companies and am almost ready to cash out for $25 on one (though it took forever to even get to that point).

  2. you’re not an advocate of regifting? really? I love it. why not give something to someone who will really like it, especially if you really don’t? (and especially if it’s free.) no different than buying stuff with gift cards, right? they don’t need to know how much you (didn’t) spend, as long as it makes them happy.

    regifters unite!
