Frugal Friday- Aroma Rice Cooker

frugalfriday I have been intrigued by the idea of a rice cooker for some time. We eat a lot of stir fry and I try and use brown rice to make it healthier, but I get the quick cook version and I am pretty sure that doesn’t make it near as healthy as the long grain, take forever to cook kind. But I am a mom!! I don’t have forever to cook. If it can’t be ready in around a half hour I will be in some drive thru line getting something that is most definitely not healthy.

So when the people who make the Aroma Rice Cooker contacted me about their product I was really excited to give it a try. And I am a big fan. This thing is like a slow cooker. You can literally cook an entire meal in it. It has a steamer insert on top so you can put the rice in the bottom and veggies on top and voila, you have a stir fry. And the best part is you just set the timer for when you want it to start cooking, how long you want it to cook and then it automatically switches over to warm mode to keep your food for you until you are ready. It is the next best thing to having a chef.

The rice cooker came with a recipe book that had recipes for oatmeal, soups, even cakes which I haven’t tried, but I love that it does more then just cook rice. I am telling you, it is practically a crock pot which is another kitchen love of mine. It also has setting for different kinds of rice, which is good because apparently they all cook very differently. I am hoping to try quinoa next as I have heard so many good things about it. I think this will be a great way to introduce different kinds of whole grains to my family. And you know you need lots of whole grains to keep a flat waist (or get one to begin with) and help ya poop. Just keepin’ it real.

Now you might be wondering why this is a “Frugal Friday” post instead of a “Things I Love Thursday” post. Because buying actual whole grains instead of the highly processed, quick cook kind is actually a good cost saver. Especially if you buy in bulk. And a stir fry is a really cost effective meal that is quite filling. Not only that, but I think part of being frugal is saving time as well as money and this definitely does that. Many people argue that eating healthy is too expensive, but a small investment in the Aroma Rice Cooker upfront will end up saving you lots of time and money in the long run and your family will be healthier for it. Not to sound too much like an infomercial, but I really think this is a great product.

  1. Nothing like quality cookware to make cooking more fun…and productive. I love cooking rice in our waterless cookware. It wasn’t cheap, but I’ve caught the contents of them on fire and they clean up nicely.

And they cook so well…and quickly too!
