Five Jean Trends for Fall

Jeans will always be “in” no matter the season. But this fall, just any jean won’t do. Actually it probably will but if you want to be on top of the hottest trends, get yourself one of these.

1. Distressed

distressed jeans

Distressed jeans are basically jeans that look like you have had them for years. So in effect, you are paying for someone else to rip your jeans. With these Vigoss jeans it is so worth it. They have the perfect amount of stretch and the perfect amount of distressing. In the fall wear them with flats of booties, In the winter, you can tuck them into your boots.

2. Coated

coated jeans

I just ordered this very pair in black. I have always wanted a pair of leather pants, but really where is a suburban mom who is pushing 40 going to wear leather? To me these are a hybrid of a jean and a leather pant. They are basically jeans coated with wax. This is a bit of a risky trend so I am dipping my toe into it with a reasonably priced pair at Old Navy.

3. Printed Jeans

camo pants

Floral, polka dot, snakeskin or leopard. Colored jeans are still in, but patterns definitely are the next big thing. I bought these Gap camo jeans last year. And they are my happy place. The funny thing is I hesitated buying them because they are a bit more than I would spend on a risky trend. But camo is everywhere this fall and these jeans bring me a lot of happiness. It is actually a bit ridiculous ho happy they make me. I am also loving these houndstooth jeans from JCPenney (especially if you are a Bama fan- or if you don’t care a lick about college football). I am wondering if I can pull of floral. It takes me back to some of my absolute favorite jeans from elementary school. Everything old is new again.

4. Boyfriend

boyfriend jeans

I have been living in my boyfriend jeans lately. There is something so comfy and relaxed about a good pair of boyfriend jeans. They can run the risk of looking sloppy and dumpy if you aren’t careful. They key is to get a pair that fits well and has a skinnier fit. I also find I need to wash my boyfriend jeans a bit more because they stretch out and get slouchy quicker. They are a great alternative to sweats or yoga pants.

5. Chambray

I am assuming that you already own a chambray shirt since I pretty much demanded you buy one last season. It is the PERFECT piece to transition from summer to fall. This fall you can add a chambray dress to the mix. This dress from Old Navy is adorable but lose the belt it comes with and throw on a colorful one of your own. Or better yet leopard print. Animal prints aren’t going anywhere.

Which denim trend are you brave enough to try?

  1. I live in my boyfriend jeans, too! I’ve been a little scared to try the camo but they’re growing on me. Could you pretty please do a post on flats?

  2. You’ll be happy to know that while I’ve been online shopping for maternity clothes, a chambray shirt has been one of the items on my must-get list. Okay? So you win. I will do what you tell me.

  3. I LOOOVE Vigoss, and my absolute favorite jeans are from them, but I can’t get into the holes-in-my-jeans thing. A little fading in the right place, yes. Holes, no. I have been so tempted because they have that same pair at Nordstrom in plus sizes, but … I just can’t do it. I wouldn’t wear a pair of jeans I actually got a hole in …

  4. I just have to say… I’ve been a little hesitant to get on board with the boyfriend jeans and the distressed/holes-in-my-jeans look, for fear of looking “dumpy” like you said. But I did it this week – after reading THIS post! And I love, LOVE the boyfriend jeans from Old Navy! I want to go back and buy a couple extra pairs now! ha Very comfortable and VERY forgiving for this pushing-40, mother of three! :) Thanks for the recommendation!
