Fashion That Gives Back

This morning I worked out in my Shot At Life t-shirt in honor of World Polio Day.

shot at life shirt

sorry for the backwards image. dang it reverse camera selfie.

It got me thinking about how many ways we can wear things that give back to others. So I thought I would highlight a few easy ways to give back and look good while doing it. (and if you want a little more bling in your Shot At Life shirt, check out Shootie Girl)

1. Mercy House

This AMAZING organization founded by Kristen of We Are That Family, has a store full of affordable and fashionable merchandise. I am partial to this shirt. In fact I may have just bought one. You know. For charity…… Anyway, there are also lots of jewelry choices that are really fashionable. As well as several non-fashion choices in case fashion isn’t your thing.

2. ViBella Jewelry

ViBella impacts the lives of at-risk women in Haiti, Mexico, and the United States by providing them jobs which pay good wages in safe, encouraging work environments.  These women serve as our artists and inspiration.  Their artisans actually take discarded plastic and glass bottles, metal bottle caps and paper, and transform them into gorgeous jewelry. Everything you purchase then benefits the communities where the artists live. So great!

3. Sevenly

Sevenly is an amazing company that sells a new t-shirt every week. Each shirt is designed specifically to show support for a mission or organization. Then $7 from every t-shirt sold is given to that organization. This t-shirt benefits Save The Children and specifically Syria. I have a baseball shirt addiction. But when it benefits charity, it is okay.

You know about TOMS right? For every pair of shoes you buy, they donate a pair to a child in need. So easy. And while most people think of their classic shoe, but they have some amazing new styles like these booties. I know several people who own them and LOVE them. And since they donate a pair when you buy one, it is practically a tax write off!!

5. Out of Print

I especially love this clothing company for book lovers. All their shirts a literary themed and for each product sold, one book is donated to a community in need through the company’s partner Books For Africa. Isn’t this Little Women shirt awesome?

Do you shop anyplace specifically because of its mission to give back to others?

Love this post… My favorite store in Franklin is Philanthropy Fashion – Where fashion meets compassion. All of their products give back and support many charities. http://www.philanthropyfashion.com/

Also, Thistle Farms which supports a residential program for women in Nashville that are recovering from prostitution or trafficking. The women make body/home products. And just recently they opened a cafe. http://www.thistlefarms.org/

Great post Jill! P.S. I may be buying that first T. Too cute!

  2. I super love Better Way Imports. They sell bags and jewelry and clothes and journals and…and…just about everything. Each item is made by a woman rescued from the sex trade in other nations.

And I love Thistle Farms, too! Best chapstick EVER!
