Family Game Night- Works For Me Wednesday

I have always loved a good board game. I am not sure it is remotely cool or fashionable, but if I could I would throw a good board game party (complete with a good glass of wine). And it seems that every year at Christmas time a board game makes its way underneath the tree.

I find that board games are the perfect chance for family bonding. There is always lots of laughter, maybe even a little trash talking, and loads of fun. Oh and don’t think just because I am playing with my children there will be any “letting them win.” I am a competitive game player. All bets are off.

One of our family favorites is UNO. We have traditional UNO, Disney UNO, and UNO Attack. It is easy enough for my 5 and 8 yo to play but no so childish that the hubby and I still don’t have fun playing it. It never fails to be top on the list of the games we chose to play.

Well there is a new UNO game on the block and it has managed to up the fun level even more. UNO + robot = endless giggles and fun according to my kids. This UNO game allows you to customize your game by making up house rules. You also have to stay on your toes because the robot will randomly switch things up on your when you least expect it.

Every player gets to record their name to start. But the best part is that occasionally the robot will ask you for a nickname for one of the players. Whatever nickname you chose, the robot will use for the rest of the game. Hilarity WILL ensue. And those house rules you make up? We picked things like “run around the table 3 times”, “pat your head 20 times”, or “step outside without your shoes on.” More hilarity ensuing. Next time I am breaking out “dance like a chicken.”

We had family in town a few weeks ago, got a few pizzas and broke out the UNO Roboto game. It was so much fun for all of us “old folk” to see how the game had changed since we were little (did you know UNO has been around for 40 years?) and introduce the next generation to UNO. It just never gets outdated. We had a BLAST.

UNO Roboto retails for $29.99 and would make the perfect Christmas gift for the board game lover in your family. Actually I think this game would make a board game lover out of anyone. It is the perfect way to bring the family together. I can’t wait to break it out again this Thanksgiving. Right now if you buy it at Toys R Us you will get a free Shutterfly photo album with any UNO Roboto (and other select Mattel game) purchase between now and the end of the year.

I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of UNO Roboto and received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate. 1. That sounds like so much fun! Mr. V and I LOOOOVE board games, and I can’t wait until our kids are old enough to join in. Libbie might be getting old enough for UNO … she knows her numbers and colors. Sort of! ;)
