Best Eight Years of My Life

marriage We made it past the “seven year itch”!! And barely scratched at all. Eight years ago today, I made one of the best decisions of my life. I married an amazing man. At the time, I knew he was amazing, but the years have confirmed it again and again. My gut is a horribly unreliable thing, as evidenced by the fact that I change my mind on what the gender is off this baby on a daily basis. But somehow my gut told me after knowing you 2 short months that I was going to spend the rest of my life with you. Two months later, you put a ring on my finger. Many thought we were crazy, but we KNEW. Plus who else would possibly find the other person as funny as we do.

Here’s the funny thing about a wedding. You stand up in front of family, friends and God making these promises that you hope to God you don’t mean. You MEAN for better or worse, but you only want the better. You MEAN in sickness and in health, but pray every day you don’t deal with sickness. You say in richer or poorer, but let’s face it- bring on the richer. You just can’t fathom in your starry eyed state what all that means. Not that I didn’t go in realistically, with my eyes wide open. I knew marriage would be hard, but in the same way I knew labor would be hard. In theory. Until you are in the middle of it screaming for drugs (hopefully that only describes childbirth, not marriage).

My theory is marriage is hard any way you slice it. But when you are with an amazing partner the hard work is just like labor. Definitely hard, but you wouldn’t dream of throwing in the towel because of what comes on the other side of hard. Thankfully, in our eight years, we have had very little hardstuff relative to all the laughter and joy. But I know that there is more hard stuff in the future. Time can only tell what that will look like. But I just can’t imagine going through the good and the bad with anyone else.

Hubby, I am so proud to be your wife. I am so proud that you are the father of my children. I love you more today then I did that day, standing in my white dress, thinking that I couldn’t possibly love you anymore. I can’t wait to see what the future holds and I love that you are the person that will be holding my hand through it all. Thanks for keeping me laughing, keeping me sane and for loving me like I never thought possible. I love ya babe!!

  10. I’m so glad you are one of those wives who will admit to the whole world that marriage is WORK. (some women just won’t fess up to that fact.) it’s HARD work – but like everything in life, you get out of things what you put into them. The more we work and invest in our marriages, the better they are. the work is so ABSOLUTELY WORTH it, don’t you think? anyway kudos to you for a kind post, a great hubby choice, and (as always) calling life like it is. :) you rock, girl.
