Basics- The Workhorse of Your Wardrobe

Every closet needs basics. Basics can be boring, but lately I have been wearing a lot of basics and mixing them up with scarfs, statement necklaces, cardigans and fun shoes. Here are a few of my favorite places to get a few must have basics.

1. White Tee from Everlane

Everyone needs a white tee in their rotation. But all white tees are not created equal. I recently read about Everlane over at Putting Me Together and thought, for $15 a tee I can give these a chance. These should be $50 tees. They are super soft and just the right weight. And they actually hold up. I will be ordering these in many, many more colors.

Here is how you can spice it up with a mustard cardigan and leopard scarf. Love.

2. White Oxford from Lands End

It works similar to the white tee, but this one you can dress up or down. Last week I wore it with distressed jeans and leopard flats. It also looks great with cargo pants and a scarf. I love how Pinterest Told Me To pairs it with a military jacket and bold gold necklace.

3. Black Blazer from Target

I was afraid of the blazer until last year and now it is one of my favorites. It is such an easy way to add a little extra to your outfit. Plus it’s getting colder and this is just a cool coat. Look at how awesome this makes a simple outfit look. I might throw in a bold necklace, but I also like it just the way it is.

4. Skinny Jeans by Vigoss

Now I know some of you are going to tell me you can’t wear skinny jeans, but you can. In the fall and spring pair them with flats or booties. All winter long think boots (I can’t wait for boots!!) If you have more booty than this ridiculously skinny model you can just wear a longer blousier shirt on top. Check out this look for inspiration.

5. Nude Flats

nude flats

This is the newest addition to my shoe wardrobe after picking these up at Target last week. They go with everything. Sometimes you want your shoes to pop. Sometimes you just want them to blend into the background so another part of your outfit can stand out. I love how they are an unexpected addition to this outfit.

I could have easily added the chambray shirt to this list, but I feel like I have beat that horse to death. Besides, all of you already have one right? RIGHT?

What are your favorite basics in your wardrobe?

  1. Love the nude flats! I bought some just like it a couple weeks ago :)

  2. I don’t do button-downs in any capacity. Not a good look for me. But you go.Also, I am a little disappointed there is no “multi-color scarf that goes with many, many shirts” on this list. COME ON, ANDERSON!
