Are You Wearing the Right Size Bra?

I once saw an Oprah where she proclaimed that 85% of women are wearing the wrong sized bra. And if Oprah says it it must be true. #sarcasmfont

I have no idea if that statistic is true, but this much I know to be true: Undergarments are crazy important when it comes to looking your best.

Wearing the wrong size bra can make you look heavier, dumpier, and even older. I am 100% confident none of us want to look any of those things. That is a statistic we can all agree on.

I think the reason a lot of us are wearing the wrong size bra is because we assume that the bra size we have always worn is still our bra size. Ladies, I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but our bodies aren’t what they used to be. If you have ever lost or gained weight, had kids or had age take its toll on you, chances are your “girls” aren’t the same size they used to be. Not to mention that if you have had your current bras for a while, they are likely stretched out and not supporting you correctly anymore.

Brace yourselves. It might be time to go bra shopping.

Bra shopping can be very daunting. It ranks right up there with jean shopping and swimsuit shopping. And it doesn’t help that the images we see in certain lingerie stores are so unrealistic and intimidating.

I was recently introduced to Aerie, the lingerie division of American Eagle Outfitters. Did you know they had a lingerie division? Let me just tell you how impressed I am with this brand. Aerie wants women to feel confident and secure about their bodies. So the Aerie bra guide features non retouched models wearing bras in your size.

Models on typical lingerie websites are retouched and wearing bras that are actually too small for them to make their breasts look bigger. See a comparison:

Both these women are wearing push up bras of similar padding. And I would venture a guess both are a similar bra size.

Aerie knows a lot of women don’t have access to their stores (which are lovely by the way. I checked one out last week and had Silas, who is four, with me. No part of me was worried about what his eyes were seeing). So they want to make shopping for their bras super easy from the comfort of your home.

First, click on the Aerie bra guide:

Click on your cup size and you will immediately see models in bras that are your actual size. Don’t know your size? Well Aerie has a helpful guide for that as well and you can measure yourself in the privacy of your own home.

Isn’t that refreshing!!

Because Aerie wants to make bra shopping easy for you that they offer FREE shipping and FREE returns. Honestly bra shopping could not be easier.

I have tried out a few of their bras now and am a complete convert. They are super comfortable and affordable. And they frequently run great specials. When I bought mine it was buy one, get one at 50% off. They also have underwear, swimwear and clothes available on their website. Check them out!

Disclosure: I was provided with a gift card to shop at Aerie.com and facilitate my review. This post is linked up to Fashion Friday at Musings of a Housewife

  4. What a great idea to have models of the actual sizes! I’ve been measured and felt fairly confident, but, yo… that 34C looks SMALL to me. So, perhaps I’m still wrong.
