Apple Nachos

Technically I gave up desserts for Lent. I say technically because I keep finding ways to justify the occasional sweet. I realize this defeats the whole purpose, but since my denomination doesn’t really do that whole “giving up something for Lent” thing, I rationalize these things in my brain.

I have decided fruit is not dessert. “But Jill that looks like it is apples smothered in caramel and chocolate”, you say? But it is fruit. And I sprinkled nuts on top which are packed with protein. See? It is practically the same as eating kale. Plus it is easy to assemble and the plate was practically licked clean at the dinner party I brought it to tonight. Everyone wins.

Apple Nachos

3-4 medium-sized apples
1 c. caramel fruit dip (I used Marzetti’s caramel dip)
1/2 c. milk chocolate chips
1-2 T. milk
chopped nuts or toffee chips

Cut the apples into slices  and place on a plate. Melt caramel fruit dip in the microwave for 30 seconds or until it is a consistency that allows you to drizzle it over the apples. Do the same with the chocolate adding milk a tablespoon at a time to thin the chocolate out. Alternately you can place the caramel and chocolate into a plastic bag, snip the corner and pipe it over the apples. Sprinkle chopped nuts or toffee chips over the top.

Serve cool.
