An Easy Way to Freshen Your Home

A few weeks ago I wrote a post about some alternative ways I use dryer sheets and asked for your suggestions in the comments on how you use them. You guys had some great suggestions!! Seems I am not the only person who uses things in other ways then they are intended.

I wanted to highlight a few of the ideas in case you missed them in the comment section.

I love this one. Our garbage can always seems to smell just a little no matter how often we change it. This totally helps!

And putting one under the fitted sheet. Who doesn’t love the smell of fresh cleaned sheets? And to make the smell last longer is just brilliant.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes if you have had a trip where anything gets wet, dirty or a little bit sweaty, that smell takes over the whole suitcase. This idea is perfect for that.

Here are a few other ways that you can use Bounce to freshen up your home:

  • Tuck a few Bounce sheets in your drawers and closets to help keep them smelling fresh
  • Keep a Bounce sheet in the cabinet with your towels for freshness each time you pull out a towel.
  • Roll up a Bounce sheet and place it in the middle of the toilet paper roll to help keep things smelling fresh around the toilet.

Bounce wants to give a lucky reader a year’s supply of Bounce. That’s enough to keep your laundry and house wonderfully fresh! To enter simply leave a comment with the most clever way that you freshen your home. It doesn’t have to be with dryer sheets, just any way that you keep your house fresh. I like to open up all the windows from time to time and air things out for example.

I will draw a winner on Sunday July 15th at random. Best of luck!

  1. I love opening the windows and running the attic fan. My favorite time time to do that, though, is when I have a load of clothes in the dryer (with a dryer sheet, of course), because the smell of the clean laundry gets sucked back into my house!

  2. I usually open the doors/windows first thing in the morning (yes even with the air conditioner running). Gives the house a freshen up before we start the day.

  3. I really want to say something like, “I love to simmer orange peel and cinnamon sticks on the stove,” but the truth of the matter is that I really like those dumb oil plug-in things. I shouldn’t, but I do. ;)

Once in awhile I’ll put a lemon down the garbage disposal, and I clean the microwave with lemon, too!

  5. Christie says:

I love the plig ins and candles. I wish I could open windows, but the sneezing is too much.

  6. Yolanda McLean says:

I’m a sucker for those plug ins too, including Scentsy. I also enjoy Febreeze on the curtains and then open the windows.

  7. Between my boyfriends 25+ pairs of running shoes, my sweaty dance shoes, and a cat, we always need to freshen this place up. I will either place a fabric softener sheet in the bottom of our shoe boxes, open up the windows, or we’ve been using the Glade Expressions line. (purchased many using coupons- Weeee!) If all else fails, I’ll just plug my nose. ;)

    Happy Friday the 13th!

  8. Kristen says:

I love to open the windows to air the house out especially on those first “warm” days in spring. We put all citrus peels down our garbage disposal. In the summer I pick fresh flowers from the garden – a small amount of lilacs, lilies of the valley, or peonies go a long way!

  9. I put the leftover rind from my grapefruit down the garbage disposal after breakfast… keeps it smelling fresh! I also spray the inside of my vacuum cleaner bag (the cloth one, after I’ve changed the paper one) with my Scentsy spray so each time I vacuum, the room smells great AND is dust free!

  10. Megan says:

The cleverest way I keep the house fresh isn’t necessarily the most efficient, but it kills two birds with one stone: after sweeping my tile floors, I hand my 4 year old a swiffer wet jet with lavender cleaner and turn her loose while I do some other housework. She loves it and the house smells great.

  11. Jen H. says:

We always use our candle warmer when we want the house to smell good.

  12. I use Febreeze all the time! And I also love to put orange peels in my garbage disposal :)

  13. I put a dryer sheet on the backside of a fan and turn it on. It pulls the air thru the dryer sheet and out the front quickly freshening the entire house.

  14. That’s awesome! I spray Oust if it’s really stinky, like a specific stink – but if it’s just general dog/kids smell, I open the windows :)

  15. I cut a dryer sheet in half and place 1/2 in each running shoe. makes those sweaty athletic shoes smell a LOT nicer. This is a fabulous giveaway. Thanks to you and Bounce for the opportunity!

  16. I heart BOUNCE! I freshen my home by Febrezing the bath rugs in between washes. If I don’t have time to throw them in the was before company comes, I can at least make them smell freshly washed!

I love placing a Bounce dryer sheet under / behind the couch in the family room…..love the smell!

  18. Hubby does NOT like the smell of candles, so I can’t burn them very often. I do sometimes simmer oranges and cinnamon on the stove, but mostly at Christmastime. Opening windows is great! I also love to clean with vinegar!

  19. I love Cindy’s (cindyrjohnston) idea of sticking one behind a fan! I recently found a set of Scented Reeds (not sure if that is what they are called) that I had set aside for a “need a quick gift sometime”. Finally broke down and opened them and love them!

  20. I don’t think I’m very clever … I just light a candle &/or open the windows to “freshen up”. But gosh, what a great giveaway!!
