A Family Forward Recap Part One

I can’t believe I have been back from Orlando a week. The memories are still so fresh in my mind and just tonight Silas prayed “Thank you God for our trip to Orlando even though it was a time ago.” Melting.

If you have read this blog for any length of time you know there are some perks that come along with blogging. I am not a blogger that goes on a ton of press trips or to a million conferences, but the hardest part of those events is that I have to leave my family behind (although, keeping it real, depending on the week that can be a perk too).

When I heard about the Family Forward conference I was so excited that this was going to be something that we experienced together. Something where the goal wasn’t necessarily strengthening my blog, but strengthening my family. I am so very happy we made the choice to go.

Family Forward was held at Universal Studios Orlando. I know when most people think of Orlando they think of Disney, but I am here to tell you that you need to give Universal a second look. It was AMAZING. Superheroes, Dr. Seuss, Curious George, Transformers, Simpsons, Despicable Me and HARRY POTTER!! That only scratches the surface but those were our family favorites.

When Ryan and I were first dating we used to watch The Simpsons a lot. Ryan was a big fan and he kind of sucked me in. In fact, my wedding gift to him was Homer Simpson cufflinks. When kids came we kind of stopped watching so imagine my surprise when we discovered that a week before Universal had opened its new Springfield exhibit.

If you are even remotely a Simpson’s fan you will be astounded at how they have recreated so many details of the show. IMG_20130823_125316

yes, this was lunch

ignore the fact I am sweaty and gross looking and focus on the awesome donut

We had been told before we went that Universal wasn’t very geared towards really young kids so I worried Silas wouldn’t be able to go on rides or enjoy the park much. We were so wrong. There were so few rides he couldn’t go on and there were quite a few things geared specifically to his age.

At Universal Islands of Adventure, Seuss Landing was AMAZING.

And the Curious George and American Tale areas in Universal were so much fun. I had to drag my kids out of both areas!

Curious George Water Park

A highly-themed area dedicated to kids, Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone features 12,500 foam balls, 15,000 gallons of water, gizmos, gadgets, squirters, shooters and a kid-friendly roller coaster.

Plus there were MINIONS!! Oh my word we are such big fans of Despicable Me and the ride did not disappoint. Plus we were treated to many minion pic opportunities and even a minion DANCE PARTY!! *unfortunately all the pics I took of minions also include my kids so how about some fun stock photos

So if you have wee ones don’t discount Universal Orlando and Universal Islands of Adventure. There is so much for them to love!

Tomorrow we’ll talk rides for the tweens in your life. Including Harry Potter which blew this Harry Potter loving family’s mind!!!

  1. One of my faves of the entire Family Forward experience was our Minion dance party. I am a dance-a-holic, but dancing with Minions? Seeing the kids erupt in laughter and excitement? What’s not to love???
